The  The Wild Beyond the Witchlight campaign for whimsical adventure to the Feywild, which exists on a different plane of existence. As such, DMs only need to use existing settings as a framework for sending players to another dimension.

The expected level range for The Wild Beyond the Witchlight is level one to eight. It's possible to make things easier by starting the party at level two or three, but the book is written with the expectation that it's being run from level one. It's possible for DMs to use some sections separately, as the Witchlight Carnival is one of the most memorable parts of the campaign, and it could easily be reworked as a side adventure in a full campaign.

If a group is playing The Wild Beyond the Witchlight from the beginning, then the DM needs to consider a few things when choosing the starting location for the campaign. It's easy to put The Wild Beyond the Witchlight into an existing world, so long as the Witchlight Carnival has a little room to breathe.

Choosing A Suitable Location For The Witchlight Carnival

Dungeons & Dragons The Wild Beyond The Witchlight

The Wild Beyond the Witchlight mostly takes place in the Feywild. The first chapter involves the players visiting the Witchlight Carnival, which sets them on a journey to D&D's FeywildThe Wild Beyond the Witchlight doesn't offer any guidance as to where the Witchlight Carnival should be placed, but DMs should consider keeping it away from any major cities. A place like Baldur's Gate or the Free City of Greyhawk might cause a distraction and give players an incentive to bail on the carnival if things aren't going their way. The more secluded the location, the less likely players will think about the world beyond the boundaries of the campaign.

It's best to choose a small town in the wilderness to act as the starting point for the campaign, as this will give players a chance to meet each other for the first time (assuming it hasn't been established they know each other, or share a group patron), as well as letting them get any shopping done before the campaign starts. The town of Nashkel in the Forgotten Realms, the town of Narwell in Greyhawk, the town of Solace in Krynn, and the town of Arden in Eberron are all excellent choices for starting locations. If the DM is using their own homebrew Dungeons & Dragons campaign setting, then they simply need to find a secluded town that can act as a nearby population centre to host the Witchlight Carnival.
