Warning: Contains spoilers for Dragon Ball Daima Episode #2Dragon Ball has always boasted some of the best villains in anime and manga history. From its early baddies like the great Demon King Piccolo all the way to the highly underrated Jiren, the franchise has consistently pumped out iconic antagonists one after the other. Now, Dragon Ball Daima has introduced its main antagonist, the newest King of the Demon Realm, Gomah, who may not look like much but seems to be hiding quite a bit more under the surface.

In fact, Gomah acting as the main antagonist is somewhat of a return to the series' roots. In appearance, he resembles the sort of villain more common in Dragon Ball's earlier arcs, like the pesky Emperor Pilaf and his troublesome gang. Compared to later fearsome Dragon Ball villains, like Full-Power Frieza or Perfect Cell, Gomah doesn't seem to stack up, at least in stature. However, according to Supreme Kai in the latest episode of Daima, Gomah is actually far more dangerous than he seems.

The extent of his power remains to be seen, though if he is able to pose a threat to Goku and the others following their extensive battle with Majin Buu, Gomah would need to possess frightening abilities. It's also unknown just how greatly diminished the heroes' powers have become now that they've been shrunk down into children, only adding to the threat of Dragon Ball's newest villain.

Gomah Must Possess Frightening Power to Pose a Challenge

The Z Fighters Possess Otherworldly Strength Following the Buu Saga

By the time the Majin Buu Saga concluded, Goku, Vegeta, and Gohan had all come to possess near-immeasurable levels of strength. Dragon Ball Super addressed the absurd power these fighters shared by bringing a deity to Earth who possessed a type of 'god ki' entirely different from what humans or Saiyans had at their disposal. Given what the Z Fighters were capable of at that point in the story, godhood only seemed like a natural evolution.

Now that Daima is also taking place following the defeat of Buu, Gomah is facing similarly powerful heroes to those that Beerus so easily dealt with before Goku attained his Super Saiyan God form. The difference is that Gomah is not a god like Beerus, or a constantly regenerating fighting machine like Buu, or even a combination of all the warriors' strengths like Cell. The arrogant and eccentric King of the Demon Realm has been seen only as conniving and paranoid thus far in Dragon Ball Daima.

But Gomah won't be the first Dragon Ball villain whose strength is far more terrifying than his appearance. First Form Frieza was not very intimidating during his time in Namek but remained a force to be reckoned with in the story. Having originated in the mysterious Demon Realm, it's possible that Gomah possesses abilities never before seen in the series, that could ultimately give him an advantage over the now weakened Goku. It is also incredibly likely that Daima's future fights will showcase more than just brute strength.

As Dragon Ball's fighters increase in power, introducing new villains that are constantly stronger than the last becomes somewhat complicated. In order to compete with the likes of Goku and Vegeta, many are given gimmicks or abilities that make them tough to beat. Buu himself was unique in that he wasn't really stronger than Goku or Gohan, but had advanced regenerative abilities and a chaotic, unpredictable nature.

Given what Daima has shown of Gomah so far, it's likely that he too will rely on special abilities, as Supreme Kai mentioned that he's not only incredibly powerful but also very crafty. Though it hasn't seen any use, Gomah carries a staff which might indicate that he is able to use magic in some way, like the wizard Babidi from the preceding arc. Magical abilities aren't deeply explored in Dragon Ball until Super's Moro Arc, which takes place several years down the timeline of events.

If Gomah shares any of Moro's abilities, then he will be far more threatening than anyone could have predicted. There is also the possibility that he has access to some transformation, as Dragon Ball has never been shy about including sudden power-ups. Regardless of speculation, Dragon Ball Daima has promised an interesting villain in Gomah, and his new abilities will soon be put on display following a very strong start to the franchise's newest anime.
