The Dragon Ball franchise has gone through many ups and downs since its debut in 1984. While the series initially ended with DBZ and the defeat of Kid Buu, Hollywood's critical and commercial disaster that was the live-action film Dragon Ball: Evolution, did so much harm to Dragon Ball's image that Toriyama came out of retirement to create Dragon Ball Z: Battle of Gods and then Dragon Ball Super. Its return has inspired a whole new generation of artists and animators in the same way that Dragon Ball inspired mangaka, like Black Clover's Yuki Tabata and the other artists taking part in the Dragon Ball Super Gallery.
