a brand-new character to Disney Lorcana lore as well as a focus on animals and pets from across the Disney portfolio of movies. While Disney Lorcana typically reveals cards over a lengthy period, the game's publisher, Ravensburger, has remained mostly mum on the new set. However, new images posted to Ravensburger's marketing page have revealed some big surprises in the next set.

Archazia's Island will introduce dual-ink cards to Disney Lorcana, as well as a brand-new type of ability - Vanish. Dual-ink cards are cards with two separate ink colors. While they don't appear to have any specific mechanics tied to them, the cards can likely be included in any deck that's made of one of the card's two ink colors. The new Vanish ability states that "when an opponent chooses this character for an action, banish them." This appears to be a negative keyword, although it likely syncs with cards that take advantage of friendly cards being banished.

What Dual-Type Cards Could Mean For Disney Lorcana

Dual-Type Cards Could Add New Abilities To Existing Deck Builds

While official rules and guidance haven't been released for dual-type cards, they could have a major impact on how decks are built. Currently, Disney Lorcana limits deck-building to two ink colors. Assumably, dual-type ink cards can be used in decks that are made of either ink color. So, a Ruby/Sapphire card that provides an ink ramp (a Sapphire hallmark) can be placed in a Ruby deck, providing more options and versatility. If this is the case, certain dual-ink cards could be used to fill in some glaring holes in various decks.

As for the Vanish ability, there are plenty of cards that have effects or abilities that trigger when another card is banished. Assumably, cards with the Vanish ability will synergize with those cards, making it easier for those effects to go off. It's noted that the one card shown with the Vanish ability also has the Illusion keyword, so some cards may trigger when an accompanying Illusion card is banished. This new ability has a lot of promise, but we'll need to see other cards in the set before making a final determination.

Our Take: Dual-Type Cards Could Greatly Diversify Lorcana's Metagame

Expect To See Some Big Holes Get Filled In Otherwise Powerful Decks

Lady from the Lorcana set Archazia's Island

Since we don't know the rules surrounding dual-ink cards, it's hard to determine how these cards will affect the Disney Lorcana metagame. If the cards can be used for decks that include either ink color, it would allow for more deck builds. Adding cards with abilities usually associated with another ink color would fill some big holes, especially when it comes to the ink ramp.

If dual-ink cards have to go into decks that use both ink colors, those cards will need to be extremely powerful to incentivize players into set deck builds. Either way, Disney Lorcana is about to get much more interesting in 2025.
