Hulu and Disney+ crime comedy series Deli Boys is now available for streaming, with its 10-episode first season released following two and a half years of development. The series features some stellar names on its cast list, including two major sitcom stars of South-Asian heritage, Poorna Jagannathan and Brian George. It also sees relative Hollywood newcomes Asif Ali and Saagar Shaikh in the lead roles.

Pakistani-American writer and actor Abdullah Saeed, who previously worked on HBO’s 118-day SAG-AFTRA strikes in 2023, but it’s finally here as 2025’s latest culture-clash comedy.

Asif Ali as Mir Dar

Actor: Asif Ali was born in Phoenix, Arizona in 1988, and began his TV career with bit-part roles in sitcoms such as Modern Family and Arrested Development. His big break came in 2016 with the Shipley brothers’ Lost parody series Wrecked, in which he played main character Pack Hara. However, Deli Boys represents Ali’s first lead role since then.

Character: In Deli Boys, he plays the studious, father-pleasing elder brother of the Dar family, Mir Dar. Mir and his younger brother Raj are suddenly landed with their father Baba Dar's grocery business after his death, but there's more to the business than just selling household goods.

Saagar Shaikh as Raj Dar

Poorna Jagannathan as Lucky

Actor: Poorna Jagannathan was born on December 22, 1972 in Tunis, Tunisia to Indian parents. She has been acting in movies and TV shows since 2004, and her CV includes brief appearances in Law & Order and House of Cards. However, by far her best-known and most celebrated role is playing central hero Devi Vishwakumar’s mother, Nalini, in Mindy Kaling’s Netflix Never Have I Ever.

Brian George as Ahmad

Actor: Brian George was born on July 27, 1952 in Nahariya, Israel, to Indian and Iraqi parents, although he’s now a British citizen. He’s by far the most experienced cast member in Deli Boys, having been acting since 1984. His roles as Seinfeld’s likable Pakistani restauranteur character Babu and Raj Koothrappali’s father in The Big Bang Theory have won him widespread recognition.
