Each issue featuring a backup story also has a variant cover of everyone's favorite duo, showing the pair trying to kill each other, cuddling up with an ugly dog, or Wolverine carrying Deadpool princess-style away from an explosion. Unfortunately, none feature what might be Deadpool's new favorite form: that of a “smokeshow” anthro fox.

Wolverine Takes Out His Furry Vengeance on Deadpool

Deadpool and Wolverine: Weapon X-Traction Part 2 by Ryan North and Javier Garrón

Anthropomorphised furry versions of Deadpool and Wolverine fight each other.

In Weapon X-Traction Part 1, an interdimensional portal opens up beneath Deadpool and Wolverine’s feet. Now in Part 2, they're getting a quick tour of the infinite possibilities the multiverse has to offer. It wouldn't be a Deadpool story if there weren't self-aware references, and their first stop mocks Marvel 2099. As they keep zipping ahead into the future, their bodies become more robotic, until Deadpool is just a torso with a gun for a head, and Wolverine is an adamantium spine with claws jutting out.

Wolverine has had enough of the gags, and the fur really starts to fly in the next universe, where both men become muscular, anthropomorphized animals. Wolverine's persona looks a little more like the animal he takes his name from, but Deadpool is one foxy furry. Instead of his normal scarred human body, Wade is healthy, fluffy, and ripped. As the two slash and bite at each other, Deadpool tells Logan something furry artists have known for years: anthropomorphized Wolverine vs. Deadpool can be a “needlessly hot, total smokeshow.” Wade its he sees the appeal, now that he’s living it.

Deadpool's Furry Moment Awakens Something In Him

Deadpool has traveled to the dimension where he's a sexy fox, and he kinda digs it. Deadpool and Wolverine: Weapon X-Traction Part 2 from Captain America #11 (2023).

The Weapon X-Traction backup stories continue across six more issues, and their next stop is a zombie apocalypse. Considering the Venom War just announced that “zombiotes” will be a major threat, these two Canucks might be responsible for bringing back some zombie virus with them into the main canon. Deadpool and Wolverine have a love/hate relationship (in that Deadpool loves Wolverine and Wolverine hates Deadpool), and no matter the location or premise, they're always a hit with the fans. This summer promises to be huge for the pair, both in theaters, and in the pages of Deadpool and Wolverine: Weapon X-Traction.

Captain America #11 (featuring Deadpool and Wolverine: Weapon X-Traction Part 2) is available now from Marvel Comics.
