James Gunn's Creature Commandos' two-episode premiere reveals that the world is inhabited by a wide variety of metahumans, monsters, and mythical figures. For instance, Victor Frankenstein created Eric Frankenstein and the Bride in Pokolistan. Meanwhile, the sorceress Circe leads a group of human rebels to attack Pokolistan in order to instigate an invasion into Themyscira.

The DCU is set to establish a new DC continuity in both live-action and animation, hence why the Justice League hasn't been created by the events of James Gunn's Superman, and why the DCEU actors reprising their roles in the DCU — mostly in projects such as Creature Commandos, Peacemaker season 2, and Waller.

Creature Commandos Confirms The Events Of The Suicide Squad Happened In The DCU

Creature Commandos Episodes 1 & 2 Integrates The Suicide Squad's Plot Into The DCU

Following Creature Commandos' opening news report about Circe and the Sons of Themyscira's attack on Pokolistan, Viola Davis' Amanda Waller and Frank Grillo's Rick Flag Sr. acknowledge the events of The Suicide Squad. When explaining Task Force M to Flag, Waller describes Weasel as "one of the few soldiers still alive from Project Starfish in Corto Maltese", thus confirming that The Suicide Squad's Task Force X stopped Starro in the DCU as well. Waller immediately addresses Rick Flag Jr.'s death in Corto Maltese — killed by teammate Peacemaker, as seen in The Suicide Squad.

Rick Flag Sr. also mentions that Amanda Waller was forbidden from creating a new team after Waller's daughter outed her out. This is a reference to the events of The Suicide Squad's spinoff show, Peacemaker, where Amanda Waller's daughter Leota Adebayo cleared out Peacemaker's name and unveiled Task Force X's activities to the press, exposing Waller's questionable methods and requesting ARGUS to be investigated by the authorities. The DCU's Waller show will likely reveal how the titular character avoided legal repercussins and why she's still in charge of secret operations like Task Force M.

The Suicide Squad’s Standalone Nature Was Retroactively Genius

James Gunn Correctly Guessed The Suicide Squad Shouldn't Have To Acknowledge The Rest Of The DCEU Explicitly

Task Force X in James Gunn's The Suicide Squad

James Gunn's The Suicide Squad soft-rebooted Task Force X after Suicide Squad's mixed reception. Characters like Viola Davis' Amanda Waller, Joel Kinnaman's Rick Flag Jr., and Margot Robbie's Harley Quinn were technically the same ones introduced in David Ayer's Suicide Squad, and Harley suggested she had already participated in a previous mission with Flag and Captain Boomerang before. However, The Suicide Squad left its connections to Suicide Squad and the rest of the DCEU vague enough to stand on its own in order to avoid unnecessary comparisons.

Peacemaker season 1 did include a clear connection to the DCEU in the form of the Justice League's cameo at the end of episode 8. Therefore, the JLA's failed intervention in the Butterfly invasion will no longer be considered part of Peacemaker's story.

The Suicide Squad acknowledged the existence of other metahumans. For instance, Amanda Waller revealed that Bloodsport "sent Superman to the ICU with a Kryptonite bullet". However, The Suicide Squad never clarified which version of Superman Waller referred to. This ambiguity makes it easy for DCU installments like Creature Commandos to incorporate the events of The Suicide Squad into DCU canon. Although James Gunn didn't know the DCEU was going to be rebooted into the DCU, his decision to separate The Suicide Squad from DCEU canon turned out to be the wisest one.
