It is the earliest days of humanity, back when the DC Universe’s oldest figures were just starting to gain awareness of the world.

The Phantom Stranger continues to set the scene, saying that this was so long ago that the world was continuing to be shaped by the stars that fell from the sky. Though these meteors often meant death, they also brought life, and one day, one meteor came down and changed the lives of a pair of early men. Two cavemen touch the fallen star at the same time and are imbued with its power. However, one brother kills the other, the first murder of this world. Phantom Stranger reveals that this ancient figure is actually DC villain Vandal Savage.

DC Connects Dots No One Expected and It's Amazing

Resurrection Man and Vandal Savage as Brothers is a Phenomenal Idea

Resurrection Man Looking at Time and Space DC Featured

As a Black Label series, the one thing to is that this connection won’t be considered as Prime DC canon until proven otherwise. That being said, this is a hell of a twist and one that makes both characters better. Vandal Savage is a great DC villain for the entire Justice League, but he’s never had an antagonist that’s really been ‘his’. And Resurrection Man has struggled to remain on the map, largely due to him lacking a solid nemesis. But a feud that stretches all the way back to the first murder is perfect for both DC characters.

They say a character is only as good as their enemy and Vandal Savage is a good one. Plus, who better to take on an immortal villain than a hero who literally can’t die? While their relationship may be contained to Quantum Karma for now, this is an amazing idea that could really elevate both characters. Hopefully, DC Comics will really run with this idea and allow these brothers’ blood feud to take them both into a new era.

Resurrection Man: Quantum Karma #3 is available on June 4th from DC Comics.
