Stevie Nicks gives her review of Daisy Jones & the Six, the Prime Video series which is inspired by Nicks and Fleetwood Mac. Debuting on Prime Video in March and developed by Scott Neustadter and Michael H. Weber as co-creators, Daisy Jones & the Six follows a rock band in the 1970s and tracks the trajectory of their career through ups and downs. The series, which stars Riley Keough Sam Claflin, Camila Morrone, and Suki Waterhouse, is based on the novel of the same name by Taylor Jenkins Reid. The author has said the book is inspired by her experience of watching Fleetwood Mac performances.
Nicks shared her opinion of Daisy Jones & the Six on Instagram, writing that the ten-episode drama "brought back memories that made me feel like a ghost watching my own story."
The legendary singer also praised Keuogh, who played the fictional band's titular singer and songwriter, and added her wish that former Fleetwood Mac bandmate Christine McVie, who died in November of last year, could have seen it. Nicks also expressed hopes for Daisy Jones & the Six season 2.
How Fleetwood Mac & Stevie Nicks Inspire Daisy Jones
Elaborating on how Daisy Jones & the Six was inspired by Fleetwood Mac, Reid explained that she first came across the band when she saw Lindsey Buckingham and Nicks perform the seminal song "Landslide" on television. She thought that Buckingham and Nicks must have been in love due to their chemistry on stage. This assessment provided the basis for the book on which the Emmy-nominated series is based. Reid also spoke of being inspired by specific songs in the Fleetwood Mac catalog.
Claflin's frontman Billy Dunne and Keuogh's Daisy Jones are fictional, though they've been viewed as echoes of Buckingham and Nicks, respectively. In real life, Nicks and Buckingham stayed together as bandmates for years even after a bad breakup, which happened during the recording of Fleetwood Mac's seminal 1977 album Rumors. Reid noted that she became focused on the dynamic.
Daisy Jones & the Six also draws inspiration from other bandmates, with Graham Dunne (played by Will Harrison), and keyboardist Karen Sirko (Waterhouse) mirroring bass guitarist John McVie and Christine McVie. Though the Prime Video adaptation draws inspiration from the overall era in the music industry and features original music, which is included on the album Aurora, the album is loosely based on Rumors.
