The World of Critical Role, a non-fiction book based on the hit actual-play web series, written by Liz Marsham and the cast of Dungeons & Dragons, and is live-streamed on Twitch (available in both video and podcast form). The show, which started as a casual home-session between the real-life friend group, began streaming in March 2015. The first campaign streamed for 115 episodes; a second campaign began in January 2018 and is still in progress, having aired 92 episodes at the time of this writing.

Critical Role takes place in the world of Exandria, created by Matthew Mercer (made an official Dungeons & Dragons setting by publisher Wizards of the Coast.

Via Penguin Random HouseThe World of Critical Role will feature illustrations, insights, behind-the-scenes photos, and interviews with Mercer and the rest of the Critical Role cast. "Dive deep into the history of the world's most popular fantasy RPG live stream with the cast of Critical Role in this definitive guide featuring never-before-seen illustrations and photos," a Penguin Random House press release states. The guide to all things Exandria will also celebrate the fans, affectionately known as "Critters," that made the show's success possible through cosplay and fan art. Fans based in the United States also get the chance to have their name printed in the book with proof of a pre-order.

The World of Critical Role is the latest in supply for the ever-increasing demand of Critical Role content - and Dungeons & Dragons content in general - and should provide die-hard Critters with an inside look at how Mercer expanded the concept from a casual game between friends to the multi-media juggernaut it is today. The entire cast of the show have also contributed their voices to the video game Pillars of Eternity II: Deadfire, and fans eager to hear Mercer's voice can look forward to his appearance in Overwatch 2, possibly releasing later this year. In any case, Critters can tune in to new Critical Role episodes every Thursday in anticipation for September's book release.
