Per TV Insider, the actor gave a positive reaction to his return to the franchise in Criminal Minds: Evolution season 3, episode 3. The actor, who played Spencer for 15 seasons during the original Criminal Minds run, talked fondly about his experience, his love for the role, and how it was great to see his "Criminal Minds family" again. The Character Could Have A Longer Arc In The Future
Reid's return to the franchise was long overdue, but it ended up happening in some of the worst possible circumstances. In of the show's narrative, the character has been away on a secretive special assignment, and Reid's unexpected return came as a shock to JJ. It's unlikely that he will be a permanent member of BAU again, or if he will even have future appearances on the show beyond this one. Still, was a nice moment for viewers to see the fan-favorite return, but he won't be in any more episodes of Criminal Minds: Evolution season 3.

Criminal Minds: Evolution kills its first major character, but while it's like a long time coming, there's still no acceptable reason for the tragedy,
Gubler's comments are positive, however, and suggest that he is open to appearing on the show again moving forward. However, the chances of his character coming back will be impacted by both on-screen and off-screen factors. If Reid's special assignment ever comes to fruition, there could be scope for him to return, but a lot will depend on Gubler's schedule, and how much time he would have to commit to a return to the show.

A Spencer Return Is Possible But Unlikely
Reid's long-awaited return to Criminal Minds was a bit of a cameo, and it could be a while before viewers see Spencer on-screen again. The problem with Gubler returning to the show in any capacity besides a cameo feels unlikely due to scheduling commitments. He currently has the crime-comedy procedural Einstein in development, and this limits time to being able to film scenes for other shows. Whilst there might be a chance of a return in Criminal Minds: Evolution season 4, it feels unlikely he will appear again in season 3.
