The The shockwaves of Batgirl’s cancellation continue to be felt, with the film’s cancellation coming after it had completed filming and most of its post-production work. That development also means that Leslie Grace’s portrayal of Barbara Gordon will go unseen, but that might not be as permanent as it initially appeared to be.
There have been reports that Warner Bros. Discovery, to make up for Batgirl’s cancellation, may be preparing to offer other projects to Grace, including potentially having Grace portray Batgirl again in a future DC movie. As to what that specific DC film could be, there is one particularly enticing possibility. That, of course, is Ben Affleck’s unmade Batman solo movie.
Batgirl is known to have a built-in role in Affleck’s Batman screenplay, as revealed by Deathstroke actor Joe Manganiello. Zack Snyder's Justice League. With Deathstroke being an exceptionally formidable opponent, Batman receives assistance from Batgirl in their fight - and given Batgirl’s role in Affleck’s Batman script, it presents a real possibility for Grace to return as Barbara Gordon.
Leslie Grace Could Have A Second Chance As Batgirl
While Affleck famously left the role of Batman due to slapdash reshoots on Justice League, among other factors, he has been showing an evident willingness to return since the Justice League Snyder Cut's release with his roles in Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom. Should his Batman movie be pulled out of stasis, Batgirl would instantly become another of DC's characters on film. That, in turn, could give Grace another chance in the Batgirl role.
Of course, it is important not to declare the renewal of Batman's epic urban battle with Deathstroke as conceived by Affleck a sure thing yet. While Affleck has seemingly been gradually inching back into the Dark Knight role with cameos and ing roles, the decision for his Batman movie to happen at all ultimately lies with him. With that said, should Affleck decide to revive his discarded Batman film, Grace could hypothetically make her Batgirl comeback in the movie.
It is no secret that the unrealized sequels and spin-offs from Zack Snyder’s Justice League continue to be championed by fans, Affleck’s Batman movie among them. That could open the door for two simultaneous comebacks. Ben Affleck’s Batman movie, described as “the best Batman script I’ve ever read” by storyboard artist Jay Oliva, could finally be realized if Affleck decided to do so. In this scenario, Leslie Grace could very well be the Batgirl teaming up with the Caped Crusader against Deathstroke.
