Notorious killer doll Child's Play movie character returning. For over thirty years, the Child's Play franchise held a rare distinction among top horror properties; it had never had its timeline manipulated or retconned. For seven films, Chucky - and later Tiffany's - story proceeded apace, with each subsequent installment never undoing anything from the past. That is until 2019 when a Child's Play remake was produced expressly against the wishes of original creator Don Mancini.
Mancini's issue was that the original franchise was far from dead, with 2013's Curse of Chucky and 2017's quirk in the Child's Play movie rights, a remake of the original could indeed be made without Mancini's sign-off. Thankfully, he's also free to continue his own franchise with Universal, who have distributed everything since the original.
After four long years, fans will finally get their Cult of Chucky continuation via Syfy's Chucky TV show, set to premiere on October 12. The series sees Chucky end up in the hands of a teenage social outcast, and so far, it isn't clear how that relates to Cult's ending. Still, it's definitely a follow-up, as it features the return of multiple key characters from prior movies, including of course, Chucky himself.
Charles Lee Ray AKA Chucky (Brad Dourif)
As a human, Charles Lee Ray was a serial killer known as The Lakeshore Strangler, who struck fear into Chicago. Also became a practitioner of voodoo, Charles Lee Ray was able to use to transfer his soul into a Good Guy doll that happened to be near him as he bled to death from a gunshot wound. For most of the franchise, his goal was to possess a human body, but he eventually got used to being a doll. By Cult of Chucky, he was able to combine both pursuits, as a new spell enabled him to put his soul inside multiple bodies, dolls and humans alike. He ended the sequel the most triumphant he's ever been. As mentioned, it's unclear how or why he made it to a small town to be bought at a yard sale by a young boy, but Mancini will surely explain that. Oscar-nominee Brad Dourif returns to provide Chucky's voice.
Tiffany AKA The Bride of Chucky (Jennifer Tilly)
Tiffany was introduced as an ex-girlfriend of Chucky's in 1998's Tiffany/Bride of Chucky in the show, but it's unclear the story behind it.
Nica Pierce (Fiona Dourif)
When Brad Dourif's daughter Fiona was cast as the lead in Cult of Chucky, some might've wondered if nepotism was in play. Whether that was the reason or not, Fiona gave a terrific performance as Nica, a paraplegic young woman who fights to survive after Chucky arrives and begins killing her family. It turns out Charles Lee Ray was obsessed with Nica's mom, and actually caused Nica's paralysis by stabbing her while she was still in the womb. Sadly, Nica ended up framed for Chucky's crimes and was locked up in an asylum during Cult of Chucky. She fought bravely against him, but Chucky succeeded in slaughtering the rest of the hospital and possessing Nica's body. Fiona Dourif is returning as Nica/Chucky in the TV show, though it's unclear if she's still possessed by Chucky.
Andy Barclay (Alex Vincent)
Before Nica ever showed up, Andy Barclay was Chucky's "friend to the end," that end being when Chucky eventually either killed him or played "hide the soul" with his body. Despite his young age, Andy proved quite resourceful, defeating Chucky in both Child's Play and Child's Play 2. Andy appeared in Child's Play 3 as well, this time as a teenager and played by a different actor, and beat Chucky yet again. Andy later returned in a surprise post-credit scene for Curse of Chucky, now played by original actor Alex Vincent as an adult. Andy also came back for a brief role in Cult of Chucky, where his best efforts proved unable to stop the killer doll. It's unclear how Andy figures into the TV show, as the plot is still mostly unknown, but Vincent will reprise the role.
Kyle (Kimberly Elise)
Perhaps the most interesting returning Child's Play character headed to Chucky's TV show is Kyle, once again played by Christine Elise, perhaps best known for her work as Brandon's wild girlfriend Emily Valentine on Beverly Hills 90210. Kyle quickly became a fan-favorite thanks to her introduction in Child's Play 2 as Andy's foster sister, as Kyle repeatedly risked her own life to save Andy's, and defeated Chucky alongside him. Sadly, she disappeared from the franchise until the post-credits scene of Cult of Chucky. Like Andy, it's unclear how she'll figure into the Chucky show's plot, but one assumes she and Andy are still close after all these years. It's quite possible that, in addition to the seeming main story about Chucky's new teen owner and his rampage through a small town, Syfy's Chucky will see Andy and Kyle team up to try and dismantle the Cult of Chucky, freeing poor Nica from the clutches of her diminutive but deadly tormentor.
