8 Jackson Rogers

Debuted in Captain America #701 by Mark Waid & Leonardo Romero

Jack Rogers is a distant descendant of Steve Rogers who grew up in a future where the Super Soldier Serum had been used to wipe out disease. Tragically, Jackson's son was immune to the Serum, leading Jackson to investigate the secrets of the Serum and uncover a conspiracy of alien sleeper agents on Earth. Jackson ended up hunted by his government, but ultimately defeated the alien agents and the resurrected Red Skull, despite possessing no superhuman powers. Thankfully, Jackson did have his ancestor's unbreakable shield and his own Timelens - a device made from the shattered Time Stone which allowed him to look backwards through time in his immediate vicinity.

7 James Rogers

From Lionsgate Home Entertainment's Next Avengers: Heroes of Tomorrow

Created for the animated movie Next Avengers: Heroes of Tomorrow, James is the son of Steve Rogers and Natalia Romanova, aka the Black Widow. After the Avengers were killed by Ultron, their children were hidden away and raised by Tony Stark, training as an elite strikeforce against the robotic horde. The Next Avengers include:

  • Azari's Black Panther - The son of Black Panther and Storm
  • Francis Barton's Hawkeye - The son of Hawkeye and Mockingbird
  • Henry Pym, Jr. - The son of Giant Man and the Wasp
  • Torunn Thorsdóttir - The daughter of Thor and Sif

James has similar advanced abilities to Steve Rogers, with enhanced strength, stamina and agility, and wields a version of the Tony Stark-designed energy shield, projected from the gauntlets of his costume. The Next Avengers later entered comic continuity when a war between Kang and Ultron threatened time itself.

Why Captain America's Energy Shield Never Made It To The MCU

Captain America's red, white and blue shield is an iconic part of his character, but another, similar gadget may be an even better weapon for Cap.

6 Ellie Rogers

Debuted in Hail Hydra #2 by Rick Remender & Roland Boschi

Existing in an alternate reality where Hydra reigns supreme, Ellie is the daughter of Steve Rogers and Sharon Carter. Ellie is a freedom fighter working against Wolfgang von Strucker's Avengers. Ellie was infected by Hydra's Venom symbiote during battle, but used her incredible will to turn her transformation to her advantage, gaining immense strength and agility as well as razor sharp claws and biological webbing. Sadly, Ellie perished fighting Hydra, but at least got to meet her alt-reality brother Ian Rogers, commiserating about the immense weight of their parents' legacies.

5 Nomad, aka Ian Rogers

First Seen in Captain America Volume 7 #1 by Rick Remender & John Romita Jr.

Captain America's only son in Marvel's main reality, Ian Rogers is the son of Arnim Zola, adopted by Steve Rogers after he was trapped in Dimension Z - an alternate plane of existence conquered by Zola. Captain America raised Ian from a baby, instilling in him all the virtues that the villainous Zola lacked. As a result of Zola's genetic engineering, Ian is a genetically perfect human, with enhanced strength, speed, intelligence and even an extended lifespan.

After being separated from Steve Rogers, Ian took Steve's old codename Nomad, fighting first with a bladed shield and later with a perfectly balanced battle staff known as Horde Crusher. Ian's costume includes pockets of bio-gel designed by Zola which can heal almost any injury when released, essentially giving him a single-use healing factor. Nomad has worked with both Steve Rogers and his various allies, serving as a major ally for Sam Wilson during his early days as Captain America.

4 Captain America, aka Sharon Rogers

From Netmarble Games' Marvel Future Fight

Designed for the Marvel Future Fight videogame, Sharon entered the comics in Marvel Future Fight: An Eye on the Future, by Marc Sumerak and Andrea Di Vito. Sharon hails from an alternate world where Captain America was never frozen in the ice, returning home after WWII and conceiving Sharon with his love Peggy Carter. After Steve and Peggy retired, Sharon took on the Captain America name, wielding an energy-absorbing shield and blaster lance designed by Tony Stark.

While she is incredibly fit and well-trained, Sharon Carter's Captain America isn't quite as strong as her father, but makes up for it with gadgetry including the Star Light Armor and her unique weaponry.

3 Flag-Smasher, aka Grant Rogers

First Appeared in Captain America: Sam Wilson #7 by Nick Spencer, Ángel Unzueta and Daniel Acuña

After Steve Rogers lost his Super Soldier Serum, he was seemingly restored to the height of his power by Kobik, a living Cosmic Cube who could alter reality. Unknown to Steve Rogers' friends, he was actually replaced by an evil doppelganger who began scheming to bring Hydra to power under his control. Marvel's Secret Empire - from Nick Spencer and a range of artists - saw this evil version of Steve Rogers exposed and defeated by the original, ultimately being locked up for his attempted coup.

This dark reflection of Steve later escaped, taking on first the identity of Captain Krakoa and then becoming the newest iteration of the villainous Flag-Smasher. Flag-Smasher also took the name 'Grant Rogers,' declaring himself Steve's brother (seemingly a reference to the brother that Marvel introduced then quickly retconned out of existence in Captain America #223.) Currently plaguing the West Coast Avengers, Flag-Smasher has all Steve Rogers' powers, from his enhanced strength and reflexes to his tactical genius. Instead of Cap's iconic shield, Flag-Smasher fights using two adamantium batons.

2 Ultimate Red Skull

Debuted in Ultimate Comics Avengers #1 by Mark Millar & Carlos Pacheco

In Marvel's original Ultimate Universe, Steve's partner Gail Richards was pregnant when he went into the ice. Wanting to create another Super Soldier, the government took Peggy's child and raised him to become the perfect killing machine. While Steve's son originally seemed like the perfect subject, his enhanced intelligence and unexpected psychopathy actually hid his vicious intentions, and he soon slaughtered his keepers and broke free of SHIELD control.

After cutting off his face as a rejection of his father's legacy, the new Red Skull became the world's most feared mercenary, with a career that included the assassination of President John F. Kennedy. Steve Rogers fought and eventually killed his son, who had been working with AIM to create a doomsday weapon similar to Marvel's mainstream Cosmic Cube. Ultimately, Steve learned that his son had intended to rewrite reality so that Steve came home safe and was there to raise him.

Spider-Man is a powerful hero but his spectacular extended family web is just as shockingly strong if not stronger than the Web-Slinger.

The Ultimate Red Skull had all Captain America's powers, including enhanced strength, agility so acute he could dodge bullets and resistance to all known diseases. He was a tactical genius with no sense of personal morality and a lifetime of black-ops experience sufficient to take down the Ultimates when they were sent after him - a team which included War Machine, Nerd Hulk and Nick Fury.

1 Crusader, aka Sarah Rogers

First Seen in What If...? #114 by Jay Faerber and Gregg Schigiel

In an alternate reality where Marvel's heroes never returned home from 1984's Secret Wars, various heroes settled down and tried to make a life on the hostile planet known as Battleworld. Captain America ended up in a relationship with the X-Men's Rogue (who had seemingly been taken over by the personality of Carol Danvers, whose powers she had stolen), raising their daughter Crusader. A powerful mutant, Crusader had the powers of flight and superhuman strength, while also wielding her father's unbreakable shield.

However, Crusader's greatest weapon was Mjolnir, which she lifted to battle against Doctor Doom and Enchantress' son Malefactor. Despite having his own son, Balder Blake, Thor decreed that having been found worthy, the hammer belonged to Crusader, granting her permanent ownership of the powerful weapon.
