When The Bourne Trilogy easily sured those other spy films during that time period.
With a hopeful new entry in the franchise releasing this week, simple titled Jason Bourne, fans are once again excited to dive right back into the world of super spies, government corruption, and heart-pounding action. Because the Bourne franchise has so many loyal fans, the team at Screen Junkies decided to give the original trilogy the Honest Trailer treatment, which points out some flaws, but mostly celebrates all that is Bourne. You can watch the Honest Trailer above.
The Honest Trailer explains how Matt Damon, a CIA secret agent is "a badass assassin like Liam Neeson in Finding Nemo." With a heavy nod to his unique skillset including weaponizing an entire office supply store catalog, bribing people with lots of cash, and his infamous "come alone and slip away" spy tactic. The creators also point out plot similarities between all three movies:
"Jason Bourne tries to figure out who he is, has a cool car chase, and runs from a control room full of people on computers only to discover that the crooked government guy chasing him was just a puppet for someone else."
Check out the official synposis for Jason Bourne, directed by Paul Greengrass below:
It's been 10 years since Jason Bourne (Matt Damon) walked away from the agency that trained him to become a deadly weapon. Hoping to draw him out of the shadows, CIA director Robert Dewey assigns hacker and counterinsurgency expert Heather Lee to find him. Lee suspects that former operative Nicky Parsons is also looking for him. As she begins tracking the duo, Bourne finds himself back in action battling a sinister network that utilizes terror and technology to maintain unchecked power.
With the movie busting into theaters tomorrow, it will be interesting to see whether or not the fifth entry in the franchise sticks to the tried-and-true methods popularized by the previous entries (including Jeremy Renner's The Bourne Legacy) or if it will steer the series in a new direction. At any rate, fans won't have long to find out.
Jason Bourne releases in theaters on July 29, 2016.
