Blue Prince is a fascinating game that ties classic puzzle sensibilities with the roguelike format. Tasked with solving seemingly impossible puzzles over the course of multiple days, a potential heir must outwit an ever-changing magical mansion, while taking copious amounts of notes. It's the perfect mystique-heavy combo that helped propel other first-person puzzlers to the forefront, and now we're experiencing the same moment for Blue Prince.
Whether you're playing it on PlayStation Plus Extra/ tier subscription, there are plenty of puzzles to dig into. Surprisingly, like other genre staples, Blue Prince has a few permanent unlockables that you can earn for your save file, which will persist throughout each run. Completing these often challenging tasks early can be difficult, but they also greatly pay off because you'll finish the core objective much sooner.
How To Unlock The Gemstone Cavern
You Can Do A Bit Of Legwork For The Solution Or Just Input It Yourself
If you want to discover the mystique of unlocking the Gemstone Cavern yourself, you can either skip to the solution we have provided here or work your way through it on your own. If you go the latter route, you'll need to draft the Mailroom and the Office rooms (this process is entirely up to chance and may take you multiple runs) and discover the clues within. This can be time-consuming and related to chance, so it's entirely up to you whether or not you want to use our puzzle solution below.
The Mailroom will allow you to decode the Utility Closet light puzzle. The Office (access the mainframe with the code SWANSONG, obtained in the Security room by looking at the note on the wall with the magnifying glass item) will give you the direct solution to the Utility puzzle, which will open up the Gemstone Cavern. Either approach will help you on your quest to knock out every trophy or achievement.

10 Beginner Tips To Start Understanding Blue Prince
The puzzling roguelike Blue Prince is meant to be mysterious but can be overwhelming to new players so here are some tips to get you started.
As with nearly every puzzle in Blue Prince, you can unlock one room, note down the solution, and do the same for the other room on a subsequent run. That way, you don't need to unlock the Mailroom, Office, and Utility Closet rooms all in a single run. Considering how daunting it can be even to nail down one of those rooms in any given run, you'll quickly learn how knowledge is the key indicator of progressing in Blue Prince.
How To Solve The Gemstone Cavern Puzzle
Once You Unlock the Gemstone Cavern, You'll Get A Double Gem Bonus On Each Run
To fully unlock the Gemstone Cavern, you need to draft the Utility Closet, open the , and input the solution: Gray, Blue, Green, White, Red, Purple. The only problem is that you have to follow the Utility Closet puzzle rules, which requires loose steps to alter the colors of each button so that they all align perfectly in sequence. While there are several solutions to this puzzle, we have one below that you can follow step-by-step:
- Turn every single button green (you can do this manually).
- From here, you have a choice: you can go from either side and turn the left or right-most buttons red (I chose the right side because my brain works better that way).
- Now, turn the button next to the red button blue (you're starting the process of creating purple).
- Tap the blue button, which creates purple.
- Repeat the same method going down the line (blue, red) until you make every light purple, making the process of getting to the end of the solution easier.
- From here, tap the fourth light until it becomes white.
- Tap the fifth light until it becomes red, and make the second light blue.
- Tap the third light so that it becomes green, which will make the second light blue.
- Turn off the first light by tapping it.
After the sequence is complete, the wall behind the Utility Box will rise and provide access to a switch. Flip it, and the Gemstone Cavern is unlocked permanently for subsequent runs. From now on, after this particular run, every future run will provide you with a two-gem starting bonus. This provides players with a massive leg up in the future, as you can draft rooms with a gem cost at the very start of the game, and have more control over how the mansion is built. The more permanent upgrades you amass, the easier Blue Prince will be.
You don't need to actually enter the Gemstone Cavern to obtain the permanent gem bonus. If you do, you'll discover a bit of extra lore for fun.
