Warning: Contains SPOILERS for Blue Beetle #7The DC Universe is constantly under threat, as heroes like the Teen Titans member, Blue Beetle, are always working to save the day. Despite strength in numbers, however, there comes a time when it’s a single hero who can make all the difference. And for the fan-favorite Titan, Jaime Reyes, that time is apparently imminent.

Blue Beetle #7 by Josh Trujillo, Adrián Gutiérrez, Wil Quintana, and a host of classic Blue Beetle artists sends Jaime Reyes through time to search for his predecessor, Ted Kord. Essentially scattered through time, the second Blue Beetle is ultimately reunited with Jaime. However, the reunion is not necessarily a happy one as Ted warns his friend of a great darkness heading their way after seeing the future.

Blue Beetle Future Warning

Telling Jaime, “You’re our best shot at protecting the future,” Ted sets the stage for the Blue Beetle legacy to play a major role in some crisis. But fans of the mantle know that the Beetles are no stranger to word-threatening stakes.

Blue Beetle And DC Crises Go Hand-In-Hand

Considering this history, it would makes sense for the Blue Beetles to be involved if there really is some new crisis on the horizon.

Ted’s warning of “dark things” on the horizon is a bit vague. However, with events like the Absolute Power by Mark Waid, Dan Mora, and more in the DC Universe’s future, there are plenty of opportunities for both Blue Beetles to play pivotal roles in the fate of their world. It’s also entirely possible that the threat could hit much closer to home, thanks to the machinations of the recently deceased Blood Scarab, Victoria Kord, or even the Reach. And considering Jaime’s own encounter with Jonni DC, the Continuity Cop, the impact of his actions is even more relevant.

This wouldn’t be the first time the Blue Beetles have been directly involved in a DC Comics calamity. After all, Ted Kord was a pivotal agent of the Monitor during Marv Wolfman and George Perez’ Crisis on Infinite Earths and a prime instigator leading up to the events of Infinite Crisis by Geoff Johns, Phil Jimenez, and many more. The latter event even saw the debut of Jaime Reyes as the new Blue Beetle, with his Scarab’s technology being the only way for Batman and his allies to find the Brother Eye satellite.

The Blue Beetles Could Change The Future

Considering this history, it would makes sense for the Blue Beetles to be involved if there really is some new crisis on the horizon. And if there’s really something dangerous enough to threaten the entire future of a world with paragons like Superman and Batman, it’s clear the hero community will need all hands on deck to save the day. Either way, big things are cleary coming for former Teen Titans member, Jaime Reyes, and when there’s trouble, DC Comics fans know who to call – Blue Beetle.
