Bloober may be getting ready to say goodbye to the Silent Hill franchise right after the tremendous success of Silent Hill 2 Remake. During the end of the last developer diary video, Bloober left a statement that read, "We promised to take you there again some day, and we did. Our series may end here, but your journey is just beginning."

Conversations and theories quickly developed over what this goodbye could be in reference to, and what this could mean for the Silent Hill series as a whole. Bloober developers have gone on to announce new games outside the series, which leaves Silent Hill's fate up in the air.

Theories quickly developed as to what the message could mean, with one of the first theories being interpreted as Bloober not saying goodbye to the franchise, but simply the developer diaries that show behind-the-scenes footage. Extra-leg-room broke down their interpretation, stating, "They’re talking about the series of behind the scenes videos. They’ve released a few others and they mention at the start of the video that this will be the final one. They’re not talking about the games."

Silent Hill 2 Remake is one of the most popular games in recent memory, having record sales numbers and incredibly positive from critics and fans. In the developer diary, Bloober's creative director Mateusz Lenart called Silent Hill "one of the most iconic locations in the horror genre", and noted how much effort went into the design of the game. The emotional story of the characters inspired developers to create a backdrop to match, a further testament to Bloober's dedication to the stories and characters they work with while creating immersive worlds.

Fan Claims The Silent Hill 2 Remake Is “Probably The Most Important Release” After Selling 1 Million Copies

After a successful release, Silent Hill 2 Remake fans were quick to discuss how the sales and positive reception make this game the "most important."

This appreciation for their craft will hopefully translate into all their projects, including the Cronos: The New Dawn. Like Silent Hill, it will be a horror survival game, but the focus will be on zombies. If Bloober truly is stepping away from the Silent Hill franchise, I believe these are the right people to take on another horror title. They aren't out to make jump scares, but craft worlds that tie horror into essential emotions, such as sadness, anger, fear, and love. This is the work that creates good, lasting horror that made Silent Hill a longstanding franchise in the first place.
