Bill Skarsgård has left Pennywise the Clown behind, but he has two replacements coming up in 2024, making it his biggest year yet. Bill Skarsgård’s acting career began in Sweden back in 2000, with his first lead role being in the comedy Simple Simon, in 2010. Skarsgård made the jump to Hollywood when he played Captain Makhotin in Joe Wright’s Anna Karenina, but he became more known when he got the lead role in Netflix’s horror TV show Hemlock Grove, marking his first step into the horror genre.
Not long after, Skarsgård established himself as a promising talent in the horror genre when he was cast in Andy Muschietti’s adaptation of Stephen King’s novel It, where he played the terrifying Pennywise the Dancing Clown. Between It and It Chapter Two, Skarsgård took part in another King-based project in the TV series Castle Rock, and in 2022, he had a brief appearance in the horror thriller Barbarian. Despite these horror projects, Skarsgård hasn’t really had a proper Pennywise replacement – until now.
Bill Skarsgård Is Returning To Horror With The Crow & Nosferatu
Following his role in Barbarian, Skarsgård is making a big comeback to the horror genre in 2024 with two highly-anticipated remakes and reboots: The Crow and Nosferatu. Directed by Rupert Sanders, The Crow is based on the 1989 limited comic book series of the same name by James O’Barr, and it will serve as a reboot of the film series that carries the same name. The Crow is also a remake of the 1994 movie starring Brandon Lee as Eric Draven, which is now considered a cult movie. Skarsgård will play Draven, with FKA Twigs playing his fiancée, Shelly Webster.
The Crow will be released on June 7, 2024. The Crow tells the story of Eric Draven, who, after his and his fianceé’s death, is resurrected by a crow and seeks vengeance on their murderers. A couple of months after The Crow’s release, Skarsgård will return to the big screen in Robert Egger’s Nosferatu.
Nosferatu is a remake of the 1922 classic German horror film of the same name, which, in turn, is an unauthorized adaptation of Bram Stoker’s novel Dracula. Nosferatu tells a story of obsession between a young woman named Ellen Hutter (Lily-Rose Depp) and Count Orlok (Skarsgård), a vampire infatuated with her. Nosferatu is scheduled to be released on December 25, 2024. Eric Draven and Nosferatu are Skarsgård’s biggest horror roles since Pennywise, making these projects even more exciting.
Bill Skarsgård Played A Vampire 11 Years Before Nosferatu (But You Missed It)
Bill Skarsgård is playing Nosferatu in the 2024 remake of this horror classic, but this isn't the first time he has played a vampire.

In addition to Skarsgård’s big return to horror with The Crow and Nosferatu, he stars in the action thriller Boy Kills World, making his 2024 an even bigger year. Directed by Moritz Mohr in his feature directorial debut, and produced by Sam Raimi and Roy Lee, Boy Kills World follows a deaf-mute young man simply referred to as Boy (Skarsgård) who, after his family is killed, escapes to the jungle, where he’s trained by a mysterious mentor to be ready to enact vengeance on his family’s murderers. The first trailer for Boy Kills World took the audience by surprise, and increased interest in it.
Boy Kills World will be released on April 26, 2024, so it will be a primer for the audience before reuniting with Skarsgård in much darker settings and contexts with The Crow and Nosferatu. Bill Skarsgård doesn’t have any confirmed horror projects after 2024, but it wouldn’t be surprising if he continues to reign over this genre.
