His first suspects are the rich Lazcano family, although he later realizes that there are more powerful dark forces involved in his sister's apparent death than he initially thought. Just like in The Cleaning Lady, justice in Who Killed Sara? could come at the cost of one's conscience.

It has more plot twists than The Cleaning Lady, with character allegiances being almost impossible to predict, which gives it a more interesting gray area. Who Killed Sara? expresses the vulnerability of low-income families to exploitation by criminals just like The Cleaning Lady, but with more mystery to the storyline. The series leans into its telenovela inspirations to great effect, making it a must-watch for fans of the genre.

The Devil In Ohio has a low-key version of Thony De La Rosa in the lead character Suzanne Mathis, a psychiatrist who finds herself struggling to save her family after a girl she saved from a Satanic cult turns into her worst nightmare. Like The Cleaning Lady, The Devil In Ohio has a strong female lead character, but it is a lot slower, and it keeps viewers guessing more, building up its suffocating atmosphere in the process.

What makes The Devil in Ohio so great is how well it explores its characters and how they navigate the situation they find themselves in.

Suzanne, just like Thony, is willing to do anything to save her family, even if it means breaking some of the rules she is sworn to as a doctor. It doesn't have as much action and intensity as The Cleaning Lady, but the thrill is similar, with every scene giving viewers the impression that the worst is yet to come. What makes The Devil in Ohio so great is how well it explores its characters and how they navigate the situation they find themselves in.

13 Sky Rojo (2021-2023)

Sky Rojo also explores the lives of undocumented immigrants, but from the eyes of trafficked girls imprisoned for prostitution in Spain. Coral, Wendy, and Gina decided to break free from their pimp, Romeo, only to discover that for them to earn their freedom, they would also have to become ruthless. They create a strong bond as they follow their plan to escape from Romeo and his henchmen just like Thony and Fiona. The Spanish action drama has more comedy, despite covering lots of sensitive topics similar to those in The Cleaning Lady.

What works so well with Sky Rojo is how it is able to keep up its frenetic pace while always focusing on the characters at the center of it. There is a lot of complexity to these women, which Sky Rojo does an irable job exploring, even when some of the sexual exploitation featured can veer a bit too close to being excessive in not-so-good ways. Still, it's a worthwhile watch for anyone looking for something somewhat similar to The Cleaning Lady.

12 The Old Man (2022-2024)

The Old Man is remarkable television, as Dan Chase is a former CIA operative who has lived in hiding for 30 years but now lives on the run after his past catches up with him. In his pursuit is his former partner in the Afghan war, Harold Harper, ed by agent Angela Adams, who is in fact Chase's daughter. The show expresses the reality of living like a fugitive in a more realistic way than The Cleaning Lady.

It is slow and tense, and the action is almost impossible to predict because of the sharp plot twists. Dan Chase, like Thony De La Rosa, is willing to do anything to protect his family. Every episode ends with a cliffhanger just like The Cleaning Lady, leaving viewers thirsty for more action. Perhaps the biggest strength of The Old Man is Jeff Bridges in the central role of Dan Chase. He brings so much to the role in the same way Elodie Yung does with The Cleaning Lady.

11 Cypher (2021)

Cypher takes the hero-turned-fugitive trope a notch higher than The Cleaning Lady, with even more action and unending mystery. It follows crypto-analyst Will Scott, who finds himself in the crossfire of a mysterious, ruthless organization when he manages to decipher a hit list hidden in a coded document for the FBI. He struggles to protect his family at all costs when they get caught up in his drama, just as Thony does with her family.

Will Scott is also conflicted about whether to work for the FBI or the bad guys, just like Thony, as his family is in the crossfire, and he also falls in love with one of his would-be killers. Plot twists and cliffhangers are just as exciting as those in The Cleaning Lady, with lots of tense moments. The biggest strength of Cypher lies in its intense action sequences, really driving home the immediate danger that Will Scott finds himself in over the course of the series.

10 McMafia (2018)

McMafia is a fantastic BBC production, in association with AMC, that follows Alex Godman, the son of a former Russian Mafia boss trying to forge an honest living as an investment fund manager in the UK, but his family's Russian roots haunt him and his fiancée, Rebecca. He is forced to seek an alliance with other shady investors to survive in business and also keep his family safe as his father's enemies come after them. Like Thony De La Rosa, Alex's skills as a financier are undermined by people's perception of his nationality, forcing him to break the law.

McMafia takes a sleek approach to crime, with more scenes being shot in elegant rooms and expensive dinners than The Cleaning Lady's many backstreet scenes. Its production values in general are incredible, showing a more high-end side to criminal organizations, and the cast of characters are all well-realized, making McMafia a show well worth watching.

9 Stumptown (2019-2020)

Like Thony, Dex treads the gray line of choosing what is right even when it is not legal in her complicated career, while also struggling to keep her family safe from the storm that her line of work creates. It doesn't have as much action as The Cleaning Lady, but when it happens, it is just as thrilling. In similar fashion to Elodie Yung, Cobie Smulders is remarkable in Stumptown, diving into the complexities of Dex Parios with an immense amount of talent.

8 Fatma (2021-)

Fatma is an innocent cleaner just like Thony De La Rosa, until her husband's mysterious disappearance forces her to show her claws as she takes down dangerous criminals while searching for him. This is where Fatma really shines as a series, focusing on the character's descent through the criminal underworld. Just like Thony, Fatma uses her job as a disguise to survive in the murky underworld where what is legal doesn't matter as much as what is just.

Every twist in the show is tense as every threat Fatma goes up against feels like it will finally end her. The episodes in Fatma have lots of action and emotion, just like The Cleaning Lady with lots of plot twists that make the show unpredictable but interesting. Burcu Biricik is incredible in the role throughout Fatma, owning every scene that she is in, and giving her character a lot of agency.

7 Blood And Treasure (2019-2022)

Originally premiering on CBS before moving to Paramount + for its second season, Blood and Treasure follows Danny McNamara, a stand-up antiquity expert working for the FBI, and art thief, Lexi Vaziri, who form a strong team against dark forces. Their suppressed feelings for each other are a major aspect of their characters, just like The Cleaning Lady's Thony and Arman, with Matt Barr and Sofia Pernas' chemistry being one of the show's biggest strengths.

They are tasked with stopping an international terrorist who uses stolen antiquities to fund his operations when they find themselves at the center of a scandal that could redefine world history. The gray area in Blood & Treasure is the main storyline, just like in The Cleaning Lady, as the art thief and the one in charge of stopping it, team up for the greater good. The grand adventure of Blood and Treasure makes the show a satisfying watch.

6 Maid (2021)

Maid stars Margaret Qualley in the lead role of Alex Russell, a strong and likable female character struggling with poverty and single parenting just like Thony De La Rosa. Alex is a single mother who is forced to move to a shelter after running away from her abusive boyfriend. Like The Cleaning Lady, Maid expresses the reality of the struggles that low-income families face and how difficult it is for them to get help from the authorities.

Alex also works as a cleaner for expensive homes in the neighboring Fisher Island, where the contrast with her own living situation is laid bare. The miniseries explores lots of similar topics to The Cleaning Lady with a more realistic approach and fewer action scenes. Maid is perhaps the best work of Margaret Qualley's entire career, exploring the rich complexity and depth of Alex, and never losing sight of her empathy.
