Winona Ryder has one divisive wish for Lydia Deetz's ending, and cast from Tim Burton's iconic 1988 Beetlejuice for the first time in decades. The success of Beetlejuice Beetlejuice means that many are hoping for a sequel, and if Winona Ryder wants her Lydia wish to come true, she should be as well.

Beetlejuice Beetlejuice saw Lydia Deetz go through a lot of transformation since she had last appeared in the franchise, with her getting a daughter, losing her father, and preparing to get married between films. However, very little had changed for Betelgeuse, with him still doing the same old shtick. Betelgeuse and Lydia's relationship had also changed very little, but according to Ryder, she wants that to change.

Beetlejuice 3 Could Fulfill Winona Ryder's Wish To Have Lydia & Betelgeuse End Up Together

Lydia's Actress Has A Strange Request

As it turns out, Winona Ryder actually wants Lydia and Betelgeuse to end up together, and Beetlejuice 3 can make this happen. When asked about Beetlejuice Beetlejuice, Winona Ryder itted that she hoped the duo would end up together, although she confessed that the idea was crazy. Here are her comments on the matter:

[Tim] he was sort of doing it with everyone, but it very sort of top secret: I would go over to his house and like we would talk, and he'd always say “Life happens! And you find yourself and you're older…” [It's] sort of, I think, a lot of what he's [Tim Burton] gone through in his life... And everyone evolves – except for maybe Beetlejuice, maybe [laughs]... The Beetlejuice franchise has some of the wackiest characters in Hollywood, but what makes them even better are their unique and stylish outfits.

Throughout both Beetlejuice movies, Betelgeuse wanting to marry Lydia Deetz is one of the character's biggest motivations. However, Lydia never seems to return this attraction, making the idea of them ending up together seem a bit silly. This makes Winona Ryder's wishes incredibly interesting, as a Beetlejuice 3 that attempts to develop the duo's romance would have a lot of work to do.

Should Lydia & Betelgeuse Actually Get Together After Beetlejuice 2?

It Would Have Some Weird Implications

While Winona Ryder does want Lydia and Betelgeuse to end up together, this feels like a weird path after Beetlejuice Beetlejuice. When Betelgeuse first tried to marry Lydia in the original movie, she was just a child. While Lydia is now an adult, having her actually marry Betelgeuse has some gross implications that probably shouldn't be explored in a Beetlejuice sequel.

Tim Burton's Beetlejuice features a variety of living and dead characters, and they're perfectly played in the movie by the all-star ensemble cast.

On top of that, Betelgeuse is shown to be a bad person throughout the movies, and there is basically no reason why Lydia would want to marry him. Betelgeuse is grotesque, crude, and dead, three things that most people don't find attractive. If Beetlejuice 3 truly wants Betelgeuse and Lydia to end up together, the film has its work cut out for it.
