Michael Keaton's Batman could be the Nick Fury of the make the Snyder Cut for HBO Max. While not every DC movie has to be connected to the rest, The Flash solo film will attempt to bridge the gap in of what is possible.
Early on in the development of The Flash, it was reported that the movie was return of Michael Keaton as Bruce Wayne, as he'll reprise the role he played for Tim Burton twice nearly 30 years ago. But, Keaton's Batman return might not be a one time adventure.
After the news broke that Keaton will play Batman in The Flash, THR reporter Borys Kit provided more information for what it could mean for the future. According to Kit, Keaton could play Batman again in multiple movies after The Flash. The other projects Keaton's Batman could appear in haven't been revealed, but his role for the future is said to be as a mentor figure. For this reason, he has been compared to Samuel L. Jackson's Nick Fury in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
The comparison to Nick Fury immediately signals the possibility of an ongoing and important role for Keaton's Batman in the DCEU. Fury debuted in role to play in the MCU in Phase 4, over a decade later. In that time, he was responsible for forming the Avengers and had a hand in many monumental moments in the MCU's history. If the Fury comparison for Keaton's Batman is accurate, then fans could see a lot of Keaton in the next several years. However, as a mentor figure to other heroes, like Flash, it is unclear how often Keaton's Batman will get in on the action himself.
Nevertheless, this news is an incredibly exciting development for the DCEU and fans of 1989's Batman. Although Christian Bale and Ben Affleck have their fans, Keaton is still the definitive Batman for an entire generation. Now that he's returning in a new capacity for (potentially) multiple films, it will be fascinating to see what the future holds for Keaton's Batman. And thanks to the magic of the multiverse, there's no telling where and when Keaton could show up in future DCEU movies, especially if he s the main universe by the end of The Flash.
