Baldur's Gate 3 is full of expansive regions with many secrets hidden away for players to explore. Despite its large scale, every corner of the game has been lovingly rendered and decorated to make the setting feel alive. You'll probably find that the smallest, seemingly insignificant room will have at least one interesting feature or Easter egg that adds even more to the lore of the game.
I still find myself being blown away by the care and attention put into this game, and it truly shines in some of its larger areas. The views from certain areas are incredible, though just about every location has its own charm. The most scenic places to visit in Baldur's Gate 3 are all worth a visit, and they usually house plenty of rewards as well.
10 The Selûne Shrine Isn't Just Useful
A Secret Hidden In The Owlbear's Cave
The shrine to Selûne found in the owlbear cave isn't as large or grand as the other entries on this list, but I think it deserves a place nonetheless. This area is quite easily missable, and since the player is encouraged to retreat after an interaction with the owlbear mother, they may never bump into it if they make a swift exit out of the cave after this interaction. I love the subtle touch of light shining upon the shrine, illuminating it from the surrounding cave and making it feel like the area truly has Selûne's blessing.

Baldur’s Gate 3: How To Open The Gilded Chest (Statue Of Selune Puzzle)
A Gilded Chest has a magical trap that makes it difficult to open in Baldur's Gate 3 unless you solve a puzzle involving a nearby Statue of Selune.
The cave features a few interesting potential interactions, especially for anyone playing a Selûnite. Shadowheart will also have a few choice words if you bring her along to the shrine. Since the cave is found next to a forest which also happens to be close to the Blighted Village, formerly called Moonhaven, I like to think that the gilded chest was meant as a gift for a young Selûnite who was undergoing the coming-of-age ritual.
9 Grymforge Makes Lava Beautiful
A Former Sharran Temple Across The Ebonlake
Since it was also previously part of a temple to Shar, Grymforge has some similarities to the Gauntlet, but it also has so many unique sights that are completely breathtaking. The cutscene triggered upon sailing into the forge shows off some impressive Sharran architecture. Lava pools in the more decayed areas across the forge create a fiery, intense ambience for the various fights you can encounter throughout the structure.
Grymforge is surprisingly pretty small compared to other explorable areas. A lot of its best features, such as the legendary Adamantine forge, are quite tucked away, so you should scour it for as many secrets as you can. As some of the best items to invest in for Acts Two and Three can be found in this forge, you won't regret having a look around.
8 The Secluded Cove Is Beguiling
A Beautiful Area For A Tiny Side Quest
A lot of the sights in the Emerald Grove are absolutely beautiful - I love the cozy, earthy feelings of the cave rooms, and I think the main area with the druid idol has a distinct charm to it. My favorite area in the grove is the beach referred to as the Secluded Cove and the descent down to it. Assuming the floor isn't littered with dead harpies, it's one of the most underrated areas in the first act in of scenery.

Baldur's Gate 3: 10 Deadliest Legendary Actions That Could Wipe Your Party In Honour Mode
These ten legendary actions make their given bosses super deadly, and will wipe out your party on Honour Mode if you aren't prepared.
The Secluded Cove's serenity serves the manipulative, beguiling nature of the harpies, but once you've dealt with them, you can really take in the scenery. The view from the path leading up to the harpy's nest is fantastic, and it would be a great place to visit for a beach-themed photo shoot after you've taken Mirkon to safety. Though it's a little further away from the harpies, I also think the sad bear next to the shore waiting for Halsin to return is absolutely adorable.
7 Ebonlake Grotto
A Fascinating Hideaway Full Of Sentient Mushrooms
If you choose to go through the Underdark to get to Act Two, you should absolutely stop by the Ebonlake Grotto. This is the only place where players can interact with Myconids, a race of gorgeously designed multicolored sentient fungi. One of the most gorgeous cutscenes in the game, where all the Myconids erupt into dance, will occur if you help Sovereign Spaw take revenge on Nere and the duergars in Grymforge.
If you're interested in romancing Shadowheart, one of Blurg's possible random trade items is a Night Orchid, which you can give to her for extra approval.
The Underdark is filled with giant mushrooms and interesting flora, and you'll see a lot of it in the grotto. The rest of the Underdark has danger lurking around every corner, so it's refreshing to have a peaceful hideaway with such a whimsical atmosphere tucked away, and you can visit after battles to sell and trade your loot. The Grotto is also full of interesting faces that you shouldn't miss out on— Blurg and Omeluum are some of my favorite minor characters, and Derryth can appear for a later side quest.
6 Akabi's Jungle Is A Beautiful Threat
Not Much Of A Punishment
If you're brave enough to cheat on the Djinni's wheel in the Circus of the Last Days and manage to avoid being turned into a cheese wheel, you'll be transported to a jungle full of prehistoric raptor-like enemies. Although this is supposed to be a punishment for the player, this is actually one of the most intricate and vibrant areas of the game. You can't get the same lively, overgrown aesthetic anywhere else in the game, and I would highly recommend at least looking around if you haven't already.
The Chult Alioramuses aren't awfully strong, so you're free to explore this exclusive area for the most part. The fact that such a beautiful area is hidden behind a very specific interaction shows the absolute attention to detail Larian applied when working on BG3. You can get back to Baldur's Gate through a portal on the other side of the map. Next to it, you'll find a locked treasure chest that contains the legendary Nyrulna weapon.
5 The Gauntlet Of Shar Is Darkly Lovely
Gorgeous Yet Foreboding
If you thought the Grymforge was impressive, then the Gauntlet of Shar is on another level. It's very reminiscent of the classic dungeon you'll come across in Dungeons & Dragons, though the puzzles may be a little more tedious. The atmosphere truly captures Shar's macabre, alluring nature, scattering gruesome ritual sites throughout the grand, dimly lit halls.
"Now Lady Shar - she has panache." - Shadowheart
Walking through the Gauntlet feels like traversing through a genuine historic monument. You can feel the devotion of Shar's fallen acolytes by the way her statues still stand tall and the many references to former Dark Jusisticars throughout the map. The Shadowlands is a dark yet beautiful place, and the Gauntlet of Shar is one of its best features.
4 The Astral Plane Changes Everything
One Of BG3's Most Exclusive Locations
The mysterious Astral Plane is one of the most significant areas in Baldur's Gate 3, and it's a different plane of existence from where most of the story takes place. Here, the pale starry sky is unlike anything players will run into in Faerûn.
The player character will visit it several times throughout their journey when they talk to their dream guardian. It appears to be a graveyard for dead gods, though it's unclear whose remains we can see. A popular idea is that the remains belong to Karsus, given his influence on the plot, especially in the third act.
3 Rosymorn Monastery Is A Partly-Ruined Wonder
The Work Of Long-Dead Monks Still Stands Strong
Many players find themselves tempted to skip the githyanki crèche, but the monastery is one of the most masterfully designed buildings in BG3. Even if you choose to traverse the crèche and Mountain Path, if you completely focus on the githyanki, you may miss out on the wider context of the location. The crèche is grand in itself, but it's very impressive how subtle clues left around the map can allow players to roughly place together the somber story of the Rosymorn monks being slaughtered by the gith, while the building still retains its former beauty.
The Blood of Lathander can be found beneath the temple in one of the most dramatic-looking rooms in the game.
Although I'm a big fan of the interior architecture, the view from outside the monastery is stunning. You can really take some time to appreciate the surrounding area by taking the cable car down to its entrance. There are also some fantastic sights from the highest points of the building, where you can look upon the rest of the mountain . The trail from the end of Act One is beautiful as well, and I particularly love the landscape that can be seen from Lady Esther's makeshift camp.
2 The House Of Hope Is Full Of Flair
Only The Best For Raphael
Another optional location that you shouldn't push to the side is the House of Hope. Not only does this area come with one of the best boss fights in the game, but it's also the only real content players get in Avernus.
Avernus was originally planned to be a fully explorable area in the final game, but this ended up being cut from the final release, making the House of Hope all the more precious. Raphael knows how to show off, and his mansion is full of exquisite decorations and rare artifacts.
Best Places To Visit In The House Of Hope
- Feast Hall
- Chamber of Egress
- Boudir
- Archive
My favorite place in the House of Hope that I always visit is the Chamber of Egress, which houses a collection of portals to different areas of Faerûn. Unfortunately, the portals are closed, so you can't actually go through any, but this would be a great premise for a modded side-quest. You can see a small snippet of the locations on the other side and can trigger short voice lines describing them by clicking on the portals. This is the only look at areas like Menzoberranzan found in Baldur's Gate 3.
1 Wyrm's Lookout Has The Most Iconic View
Your Journey Continues
I think it would be wrong to put anything other than Wyrm's Crossing at the top of this list, specifically the Wyrm's Lookout camp, which you'll only get to see once upon entering Act Three. From here, you'll experience a cutscene with a view of the city of Baldur's Gate, and the length of your journey truly comes into light. You may want to skip past this area to jump right into the next part of the story, but I would encourage you to spend a little more time at the campsite before doing so.
Though there are plenty of individual places throughout the third act that could rightfully earn a place on this list, nothing beats an outlook over the entire main city. It's especially beautiful at night, as seen in a screenshot by Reddit Elite_Goose_1. Baldur's Gate 3 has such an incredible story and a memorable cast of characters, but you should definitely appreciate the landscape design as well.
