Atomfall is an RPG that primarily lets you decide how you want to approach the story and how you want to find an escape route. Each available escape route is equally viable for escaping the Lake District, but the choice lets you decide your character's values and who they trust. The real question about whether you should trust each character depends on how you want to approach the storyline and how you want to solve the problem of Oberon, which makes the role-playing element more prominent.

One of the main areas you'll be exploring is Wyndham Village, where you can also find some of Atomfall's crafting recipes. Unlike most regions in the Lake District, Wyndham Village is generally safe. You don't need to worry about outlaws or infected enemies, because Protocol is responsible for the village's safety, and they take their jobs seriously under Captain Sims' leadership. As a result, it can be tempting to trust Captain Sims and work with him to escape the Lake District, since his avenue feels the most official once you see Wyndham.

What Happens If You Tell Sims About The Murder In St. Katherine’s Church

Going Against The Vicar

When you enter Wyndham Village and first enter Atomfall's St. Katherine's Church, you see the scene of a murder, which the vicar doesn't want Protocol to know about, meaning you're now a witness to an event he wants to keep secret. If you need an atomic battery and purchased Molly's before this point, she will let you know that she sold one to a vicar in the past. So, having this knowledge beforehand enables you to tell the vicar that you'll keep his secret in exchange for the battery, even if you don't intend on keeping your word.

Atomfall: Should You Inject Yourself With Dr. Holder’s Inoculation?

When you meet Dr. Holder, if you decide to follow the leads to him, he offers you a dose of his inoculation, but should you accept that shot?

Telling Sims about the murder in the church will increase your reputation with him and Protocol, which makes them view you in a more positive light. You might not notice any direct outcomes right away after making this decision, but it helps make some content later in the game easier to access. However, telling Sims locks you out of any items you can get by confronting Morris or bartering with him, so you want to do that first to avoid locking yourself out of the chance.

What Happens If You Tell Sims About Iris’ Husband In The Bakery

ing Sims' Suspicions

Bakery view from outside in Atomfall

There are two ways to initiate the Wyndham Bakery quest in Atomfall, which could also lead to how you approach handling that quest overall. You can speak directly to Iris at the bakery, or you can speak with Sims first, who tells you that he has suspicions, particularly that he's concerned about Iris' husband. The most significant difference from who you speak to first is basically how the conversation with Iris goes.

If you speak to Iris first, she's more willing to give you information about what's going on.

Her husband has become infected with the same spores that created the infected monsters you fight in bunkers and the Interchange. You can pry about the issue, and then pick up a lead that sends you to Mother Jago to learn about her tonic that might be able to cure Iris' husband. Of course, if you've already done Mother Jago's book quest in Atomfall, you won't need to seek her out again.

In of rewards, you'll receive the same benefits from either option. However, the biggest difference is once again in where you gain Reputation for your choice. Telling Sims increases your Reputation with him and Protocol, but helping Iris increases your Reputation with her and Mother Jago. Sims' increase lets you explore more easily in Protocol areas, but it does mean that Protocol kills both Iris and her husband.

Giving Information To Captain Sims Can Make Skethermoor Much Easier

Skethermoor Can Be Difficult Without Help

Entrance to Skethermoor in Atomfall

Skethermoor Prison is a location you need to visit during the game's events, because it's the way for you to get the Signal Redirector, an item required for finishing the Interchange portions of the game. As a prison, it's heavily guarded by Protocol and their robots, which tends to make this portion of the game quite brutal. If you aren't prepared, you end up attracting all the guards as enemies when you try to enter, meaning you need to be strategic about entering. However, you could just take the easy way instead.

If you help Sims throughout the game and increase your Reputation with him and Protocol, you can use his positive view of you to make it much easier to get into Skethermoor Prison.

If you help Sims throughout the game and increase your Reputation with him and Protocol, you can use his positive view of you to make it much easier to get into Skethermoor Prison without worrying about the level of adversity you'll face for entering without permission. After you report to him about both the church and bakery issues, your reputation is good enough that you can get a from him to enter Skethermoor Prison by going under the pretense of interrogating Dr. Garrow.

How To Get To Skethermoor In Atomfall (Map & Location)

Skethermoor is one of the later regions in Atomfall, and arguably the hardest to get to. Fortunately we have a map and exact location info to help.

Then, when you actually get into the prison, you don't have to keep your word about interrogating her. Either way, you must follow her instructions to get the Signal Redirector. Once you have it, you can free her by opening the cells, but she escapes without you, and Protocol becomes hostile towards you due to your decision. So, your decision here depends on whether you want Sims' ending and the easy way out of the prison, or if you want another ending and to fight your way out of Skethermoor.

Working With Captain Sims Depends On Which Ending You Want

It's One Of Several Options

Atomfall reporting the murder at St. Katherine's Church to Captain Sims of Protocol during Lead side quest

Like most main leads you find throughout Atomfall, helping a character depends on the ending you want. Of course, you can help characters get some benefits from their quests, but then pursue a different ending by not going far enough in the quests to lock yourself into their ending. When it comes to deciding to help Captain Sims, there are definitely benefits to doing so, even if you don't plan on going through with his ending.

Because of his affiliation with Protocol, it can feel like Captain Sims' ending might be the right one to pick, since you're helping the people sent to this zone to protect residents left there. However, it becomes clear quite quickly that Protocol's methods can be more brutal than necessary for handling the problems they're presented with. Still, accessing Skethermoor Prison without a fight is worth at least helping Sims for a while in Atomfall.
