Embark Studios' second technical test, and statistics from the event show just how deadly the game's machine enemies really are. The extraction shooter often puts players at odds with each other, but the annihilation-bent ARC machines are an ever-present hazard, with certain variants proving just how dire humanity's circumstances in the Rust Belt are.
In a new video from the ARC Raiders YouTube channel, Embark Studios shared stats from Tech Test 2, revealing that players only managed to kill the Queen a combined 135 times, while the Queen killed an astounding 24,137 players. While the Queen has an impressive kill/death ratio, it's hilariously not the deadliest ARC from Tech Test 2. Across the combined 5,932,650 games played, the Rocketeer is responsible for killing 301,564 players.
Tech Test 2 Stats Show Just How Dangerous ARC Raiders' Enemies Are
No Wonder Humans Are Living Underground
In PvPvE games, other players are typically the most deadly threat by far, and while that still rings generally true for ARC Raiders, these Tech Test 2 stats show just how fearsome the computer-controlled foes are. The Queen was introduced in Tech Test 2's Night Raids, which upped the danger by having players scavenge the surface with little visibility, but offered greater loot. Queens were the largest enemies seen in the playtest, but the full release is expected to eventually put players up against even more formidable ARCs.
The video's other stats revealed that the Rattler was the most-used weapon, and that 8,346 rubber ducks were salvaged.
ARC Raiders' enemies were created with machine learning, in part to ensure large enemies like the Queen don't have canned walking animations. ARCs at large are an integral part of the gameplay loop, providing tricky enemies that also alert other Raiders to your position. They're often heavily armored, and need to be destroyed by aiming for specific components. They also hold valuable resources, so it's a constant risk/reward scenario deciding whether to engage or try to sneak past.
ARC Raiders Tech Test 2 Appears To Have Been A Major Success For Embark
Nearly 6 Million Rounds Played
As equally impressive as the Queen's ability to exterminate Raiders is the apparent success of Tech Test 2 for ARC Raiders and Embark Studios. Nearly six million rounds were played over the course of five days, and the reception has been largely positive. In my own personal experience with the playtest, it was remarkably polished for a pre-release build, despite some unfortunate crashes and shortcomings with the UX on consoles. Deadly robots like the Queen seem to have been a highlight for the playerbase, adding verisimilitude to ARC's purported danger in-universe.
ARC Raiders is still set for release sometime in 2025, though an exact date – nor a narrower window – has not yet been provided. With the success and polish of Tech Test 2, many players feel the game is close at hand. ARC Raiders' deadly enemies have certainly made for a memorable and novel experience, even if it came at the expense of hundreds of thousands of Raiders.
