And Just Like That viewers should not expect to see Kim Cattrall make any further returns as Samantha Jones in season 3. The official sequel to the successful Sex and the City television series, And Just Like That is set 17 years after the finale and reunites close friends, Carrie Bradshaw (Sarah Jessica Parker), Miranda Hobbes (Cynthia Nixon), and Charlotte York (Kristin Davis). Now in their 50s, the ladies experience changes in their families, friendships, and romances as they navigate the next stage of their lives in New York City.

Originally billed as an HBO miniseries, And Just Like That has established itself as different from its predecessor, Sex and the City, which has led to significant criticism, with many deeming it inferior to the original series. Regardless, And Just Like That season 3 will not see Kim Cattrall's character, Samantha Jones, return.

Kim Cattrall's Return In And Just Like That Season 2 Was Just For A Cameo

Cattrall Has Made It Clear That She Will Not Return For Season 3

One of the main criticisms of the AJLT series was the absence of Samantha Jones, which, in part, was due to the off-screen feud between Cattrall and Sarah Jessica Parker, and the show's producers. Samantha's absence was worked into the show, where it was explained that, since the events of Sex and the City, Samantha had moved to London and was no longer close friends with Carrie, Charlotte, and Miranda. Despite the ongoing issues between Cattrall and the producers, viewers were hopeful that Cattrall would return as Samantha Jones at some point in And Just Like That.

Kim Cattrall made a surprise cameo in AJLT's season two finale, where her character, Samantha, has a phone conversation with Carrie. In their conversation, Samantha talks about Carrie's farewell dinner at her old apartment, where the four friends shared many memories, and how she wanted to "pay her respects" to the flat. The two women have a brief conversation, which ends with them affirming their friendship and Samantha blowing a kiss on the phone. While this brief cameo hinted at a possible permanent return for Samantha in season 3, Cattrall has made it clear that this will not happen.

Getting Kim Cattrall to return for her cameo role in And Just Like That proved difficult, and it notably took some convincing for Cattrall to reprise her role in the season 2 finale in an appearance that was filmed without any of her former Sex and the City co-stars. While Samantha's cameo appearance showed that the bond she once held with Carrie, Miranda, and Charlotte still remains strong, it looks extremely unlikely that she will reunite with her New York City friends ever again.

And Just Like That Season 3 Needs To Move On From Samantha Jones

It Doesn't Look Like Kim Cattrall Will Ever Return To The Series Again

Sex and the City Samantha Jones at a party

Throughout the first two seasons of And Just Like That, Kim Cattrall's Samantha Jones has been mentioned by Carrie, Charlotte, and Miranda, and it is clear that since the events of SATC, despite on-screen phone calls and text messages, their once close friendship group is no longer what it used to be. In a response to a republished article on X, formerly Twitter, Kim Cattrall firmly debunked further rumors of her return to the franchise. Cattrall's response shows that season 3 of And Just Like That needs to move on from Samantha Jones' potential return to New York City.
