Star Wars Celebration 2025 has revealed new plot details and returning characters for Ahsoka season 2. During Lucasfilm's Ahsoka with Dave Filoni, Jon Favreau, Rosario Dawson, and Hayden Christensen, new insights were revealed about what fans can expect from the second season.

Hayden Christensen will return as Anakin Skywalker. However, several new reveals have come via an exciting concept art trailer put together by Dave Filoni, inspired by the original teaser for The Empire Strikes Back. Here are the biggest reveals from the new and exclusive Star Wars footage for Ahsoka season 2.

9 Grand iral Thrawn Has Returned

"The Imperial Remnant Is Growing In Power!"

General iral Thrawn is displeased as he speaks with someone in Ahsoka

Using John Williams' classic Star Wars end credits fanfare, the new concept teaser is narrated in classic 80s fashion as various concept art images and character stills are shown. This includes the confirmation that Grand iral Thrawn has returned to the main Star Wars galaxy as the Imperial Remnant will have grown into a major threat under his leadership: "Who will be able to stop them?" Artwork is shown of Thrawn sitting at a command bridge, stormtroopers fighting the New Republic as AT-ATs are dropped from carriers, and Nightroopers on either side of Thrawn himself.

8 Ahsoka Season 2's Heroes Must Confront Enemies In Two Different Galaxies

In the next sequence, concept art is shown of Sabine and Ahsoka riding what look to be Howlers on Peridea and fighting raiders, while the New Republic is shown fighting a group of Nightsisters and Captain Enoch. The Chimaera) is shown, including a masked Nightsister warrior. Hera Syndulla and Chopper are featured alongside New Republic soldiers, hiding from Enochon what may be the Nightsisters' home of Dathomir, the first planet Thrawn went to at the end of Ahsoka season 1 upon his return.

Artwork of Ezra Bridger is shown suiting up in what looks like a New Republic pilot's jumpsuit. Additionally, Shin Hati is shown facing the Jedi droid professor Huyang, who is seen wielding four different lightsabers on Peridea, looking not unlike General Grievous.

6 Ahsoka Season 2's Concept Trailer Teases More Dark Nightsister Magicks

"Encounter The Power Of The Occult!"

Following the narration's line about the occult, more concept art of New Republic soldiers is shown on what must be Dathomir, ing the idea that the Nightsisters will continue to be key allies to Thrawn and the Imperial Remnant. Likewise, concept art is shown of Sabine Wren on Peridea, likely exploring the ancient Dathomiri kingdom the Nightsisters abandoned when they left for the main Star Wars galaxy. Additionally, this line also suggests Thrawn's undead Nightroopers will continue to be a threat, and s the theory that the Great Mothers will revive their fellow Nightsisters now that they've returned to Dathomir.

5 Ahsoka and Sabine Will Fight Ancient Machines

"With A Dark And Terrible Past"

Multiple pieces of concept art show large golem-like machines/droids battling Ahsoka and Sabine on Peridea. One of these machines has a strong resemblance to the skeletal kaiju monsters Filoni had drawn for an unfinished Clone Wars arc where Ahsoka and Anakin would have explored the secret Sith shrine located beneath Coruscant's Jedi Temple. While details are slim at the moment, these ancient machines may be guarding whatever it is Baylan Skoll is searching for and its connections to the Mortis gods (The Father, Son, and Daughter).

Additionally, Dave Filoni did say during the that the Mortis ties would continue, though he did it that he keeps rewriting those particular elements ahead of the second season's filming (which was confirmed to be next week). Here's what Filoni had to say about the Mortis gods in Ahsoka season 2:

The Mortis gods... that's a thing. We'll see. Watch season 2 when it comes out, you'll get a taste of it. You'll get a taste of a lot of things. It's a complicated thing. It was the weirdest day [when] George [Lucas] brought that stuff up. I don't know where he was going with that one, and then I had to figure it out. It turned out to be a pretty compelling episode. It's a big mystery: the Son's there, the Father's there, most of the Daughter's there. ...But we'll see, we'll get into it.

4 "An Awesome Confrontation Between Ahsoka Tano and Baylan Skoll"

Fallen Jedi Knight, Now Played By Rory McCann

Having been confirmed earlier in the Ahsoka season 2 that Rory McCann would be taking over the role of Baylan Skoll from the late Ray Stevenson, the concept trailer and narration confirm that the second season will "culminate in an awesome confrontation between Ahsoka Tano and the fallen Jedi Knight, Baylan Skoll!" The artwork itself shows Ahsoka with her lightsaber ignited and another image of Baylan standing on a snowy cliffside looking at Ahsoka and Sabine's T-6 shuttle in the distance.

3 A Large-Scale Space Battle

iral Ackbar Is Set To Face iral Thrawn

Ahsoka, iral, Ackbar, and Thrawn from Star Wars

More concept art shows Hera Syndulla's Ghost and Phantom II as well as multiple Imperial and New Republic starfighters in dogfights near a large capital ship. This is likely connected to the reveal earlier in the by Dave Filoni that iral Ackbar will be returning in Ahsoka season 2, where he'll be taking iral Thrawn and his forces head-on.

2 Returning And New Characters In Ahsoka Season 2

"And Introducing...Garazeb Orrelioss!"

Zeb Orrelios in The Mandalorian

Just like in the original Empire Strikes Back tease from 1980, returning characters are revealed one by one as each name is announced with some wonderful retro transitions. Returning characters include: "Ahsoka Tano! Sabine Wren! Ezra Bridger! Hera Syndulla! The Droid Huyang! Chopper! And introducing...Garazeb Orrelioss!" The reveal that Zeb will be in Ahsoka mirrors how Lando Calrissian was introduced in the OG concept trailer, confirming that he won't just be in the Mandalorian & Grogu movie. This is very exciting, as it means we could very well see all the surviving Rebels cast together in live-action at some point.

1 Thrawn Looms Over Ahsoka Season 2's Entire Story

A Fiery Explosion To End The Epic Concept Trailer

Grand iral Thrawn appears again following the last bit of narration and Ahsoka season 2's title card: "In the continuation of the Star Wars series, Ahsoka season 2!". A fiery explosion closes out the teaser, calling back to the OG Empire Strikes Back trailer. Thrawn's face is superimposed within it, ing the idea that he'll be the big bad of the second season, and likely beyond in the New Republic Era.

Filoni did confirm that the Grand iral is the perfect villain for this period, as Thrawn is indeed the "Heir to the Empire", just like he was in Timothy Zahn's Legends novels where the Grand iral was first introduced before he was re-canonized in Star Wars Rebels. That said, one has to wonder how this will all be cohesive. Clearly, Ahsoka season 2 will be a much bigger endeavor and far more expansive than the first season.

This new concept trailer definitely confirms that stories will be happening simultaneously across galaxies. To that end, Baylan Skoll will likely be just as much of a threat in Peridea as Thrawn will be in the main Star Wars galaxy. The question is how both of these stories will come together in a way that's satisfying (and doesn't feel too disted). Regardless, it's very clear that Ahsoka season 2 has a vast amount of potential and promise, and it's going to be very exciting to learn more as we get close to the show's eventual release.

Ahsoka season 2 is currently in production now, with filming set to begin next week at the end of April.
