Below Deck Down Under season 3 has continued on its chartered course, many have been watching Captain Jason with a more critical eye. Moving through the show's rough waters is part of every season, but the drama with this season's cast has been both exciting and exasperating. Captain Jason has been having a tough time keeping up with all the drama.

This season, Below Deck Down Under season 3's cast has been struggling with their dynamic both in the larger group and in different subsets. With crew like Chef Tzarina Mace-Ralph and chief stew Lara Rigby getting into micro-feuds while others like former Bosun Wihan Du Toit and former deckhand Johnny Arvanitis literally could've come to physical blows if things had escalated, there's been a lot going on throughout Katina that requires the captain's attention. Jason's inability to handle the drama has been noticeable, though he's stepped in when it matters. Things are changing next season, but perhaps not enough.

He's been having a hard time in other areas and been missing details that Captain Jason should be upset about. Instead, the captain has given Harry the benefit of the doubt because of their close bond.

Captain Jason Has Made Mistakes

He Hasn't Been On Point

Throughout Below Deck Down Under season 3, Captain Jason's leadership has been called into question a few times. Despite knowing that things have changed for the captain after the last season of the series ended in some major drama and discipline for the production staff, Jason came back from Below Deck Down Under season 2's scandal with a light-hearted energy. Knowing he had to uphold the new policies and procedures put in place to keep the cast safe, Captain Jason may have been more focused on safety than anything else in the early days of the charter, impacting his judgment.

With Captain Jason struggling to find his footing early on, it was clear he was having a hard time getting into the season. The Below Deck Down Under captain struggled to push his crew in the right direction, even missing some obvious issues with Wihan in the first dockings of the season. Despite his missteps, Jason's managed to regain his confidence by mid-season.

Harry Van Vliet May Not Be The Perfect Lead Deckhand

Although Below Deck Down Under season 3's cast only has a few people returning from a previous iteration of the series, lead deckhand Harry Van Vliet is one of the few yachties that many wanted to see return for another season of the series. With Harry having been a great representation of the yachtie lifestyle during the previous season, he was one of the only guys on the crew of Norther Sun that Below Deck Down Under season 2 viewers were hopeful about seeing again. Harry's easy-going nature, kind-hearted relationships, and ability to work through issues with clarity is great.

While Harry was quickly chosen to be lead deckhand upon ing Katina's crew, his skills have been called into question a few times so far this season. Though Harry is undeniably knowledgeable in the yachting industry, he's had a few obvious struggles throughout the current charter season leaving some wondering what's going on. After having an accident that led him to medical attention off the yacht and, in another moment, forgetting one of the critical steps during a docking that could've been far more serious, even Captain Jason has wondered if Harry should be demoted from the lead deckhand spot.

Captain Jason's Bromance With Harry Is Distracting

They Haven't Always Been Professional

Although Harry and Captain Jason's relationship has been something that some Below Deck Down Under viewers are enjoying, others are finding it distracting this season. Harry and Captain Jason have both been established as people who know what they're doing aboard Katina, but both have struggled to keep their heads clear when it comes to each other. Their bromance aboard Katina has clouded the captain's better judgment in moments where he should've been clear-headed enough to take action and ensure Harry's decision-making was pointed out to him as a problem. Instead, Captain Jason has let things slide under the rug.

As Harry has moved through the charter season, he's made mistakes with dockings and leadership that haven't been right for a yachtie with his level of experience. While Harry isn't the bosun, he's been operating alongside new bosun Nate Salmon in a leadership role, making it clear that he's one of the more knowledgeable yachties aboard Katina. Though he's been doing some things well, he's been having a hard time in other areas and been missing details that Captain Jason should be upset about. Instead, the captain has given Harry the benefit of the doubt because of their close bond.

Who Could Be Cast In BDDU Season 4?

The Changes Have Been Shocking

Although Below Deck Down Under season 4 has already been announced to have some major cast shakeups, it's possible more change is in order for the show. With Chef Ben Robinson and Chief Stew Daisy Kelliher of Below Deck and Below Deck Sailing Yacht, respectively, will be ing Captain Jason for the season of the Aussie spin-off, it's possible that more change needs to ensue in order to make sure the show's on the right path. Captain Jason's been the leader of Below Deck Down Under for three seasons, but moving into a fourth, he may need to go.

With so much change in store for the next season of the series, Captain Jason may be the key to ensuring that Below Deck Down Under continues successfully. Whether the key is keeping him around or moving him away from the role, it's possible that change for the Captain could be a good thing. After seeing him approach this season with a lot less enthusiasm than expected, it seems likely that Captain Jason is ready to at least take a break from Below Deck Down Under before coming back again. Captain Jason may need to take leave from the show.

Below Deck Down Under airs Mondays at 8 p.m. EDT on Bravo.
