A new trailer for 28 Years Later, which was helmed by Days director Danny Boyle, reuniting with original screenwriter Alex Garland, boasts a star-studded cast that includes Ralph Fiennes, Aaron Taylor-Johnson, and Jodie Comer.
Sony Pictures Entertainment has now unveiled a new official trailer for 28 Years Later. The trailer kicks off with an eerie scene of three soldiers walking through the dark before one of them is attacked by an Infected. The action then picks up on a small island while a character laments how many people are dead, both Infected and non-Infected, emphasizing the importance of protecting their small, isolated community. The next scene shows Aaron Taylor-Johnson's character Jamie insisting that his son Spike (Alfie Williams) is old enough to go to the mainland, even though they won't have backup.
Naturally, they encounter a horde of Infected and must run. Amid shots of chaos, fire, and Infected, a boat full of soldiers arrives on the shore and encounters an Infected. More shots show the devastation of the surrounding areas and the anguish of the people, highlighting the fact that the war between the Infected and the non-Infected is still ongoing. It all closes with a zealous preacher screaming "yes, my children!" while a horde of Infected rushes toward him. Watch the trailer below:
What This Means For 28 Years Later
The World Of The Sequel Is Being Fleshed Out
So far, the new 28 Years Later trailer does not reveal too much information about the storyline of the movie, though it does offer a closer glimpse at the basic framework of the world around the characters. This is especially true of the relatively peaceful island community from which Jamie and Spike emerge.
Jamie's wife and Spike's mother is Isla (Jodie Comer), who is pregnant during the time in which the movie takes place.
Additionally, the trailer features a series of symbols that have been deciphered by fans to deliver the message "memento mori," a that unlocks the website rageleaks.net. The site features a dossier that offers more information on the island, which is known as the Lindisfarne Commune. According to the file detailing the island, it has a secure community with a "stable social order" and "zero attempts to break quarantine," which most likely means that they have not made any attempts to escape the British Isles, which indicates that it may be the most peaceful place for many miles around.
Our Take On the 28 Years Later Trailer
It Hints At The Movie's Structure
From this trailer, the overall arc of the plot of 28 Years Later seems relatively clear. It seems highly likely that the anticipated 2025 movie will explore the ravaged landscape in a similar manner to Jamie and Spike, beginning in a safe, isolated community before expanding out into the dangerous terrain around them. As they encounter more and more characters, the full scope of the devastation (and the different ways that survivors handle it) will most likely be revealed in a slow drip.
