The Legend Of Zelda franchise has numerous games spanning across multiple decades, with each one finding unique ways to stand out with their individual narratives. Since 1986, every game has chronicled the adventures of its protagonist, Link, as he fights to save the kingdom of Hyrule from destruction.

There are many intriguing moments in these numerous games that still haven't been fully explained to this day. These range from mysterious creatures that appear during a particular side quest to an ambiguous ending that leaves players with far more questions than answers. There is so much potential as to what new games in this franchise could entail, but there are many specific aspects of prior games that Nintendo should take time to focus more on.

10 The Existence Of Aliens

An Actual Explanation Of What "Them" Are

One of Majora's Mask's most bizarre moments occurs during the first day at Romani Ranch. Apparently, every year, strange creatures arrive at the ranch two days before the Carnival Of Time to abduct the cows. Although these creatures are simply referred to as "They" by the citizens, many fans have noted that these things seem to be some sort of alien.

These strange aliens almost made a reappearance in BOTW, as concept art showed a massive UFO floating over Hyrule. Considering the fact that the origins of these aliens still have yet to be explained, it could be interesting if Nintendo ever decided to make a game centered around them so that fans can finally have some answers.

9 Zelda's Training To Become Sheik

Another Chance To Play As Zelda Herself

One of the most fascinating and surprising twists in Ocarina of Time centers around Sheik. In the game, it is revealed that Sheik is actually Princess Zelda in disguise, as she was raised by the Sheika warrior Impa while hiding from Ganondorf. This transformation is incredibly fascinating, as it has provided Zelda with numerous abilities, such as increased stealth and combat prowess, that hadn't been seen before.

As incredible as this twist is, the player never actually gets to see just what kind of training Zelda goes through as Sheik. With how popular Echoes Of Wisdom was, it is clear that numerous Zelda fans enjoy playing as the princess, as it allows for unique variations on the standard type of gameplay the series is known for with Link. A game that is completely centered around Zelda being raised and trained by Impa would allow for some truly fascinating storytelling while also providing a new opportunity for unique gameplay.

8 What Happens After Spirit Tracks

Vague Endings Providing Numerous Possibilities

Spirit Tracks is the game that signals the end of the Adult Era in Zelda's Hero Is Triumphant timeline, though the game itself has three possible endings. Depending on how Link responds to Zelda's question after defeating Ganon, Link could go off to be an engineer, a brave warrior, or simply be off on another journey figuring out what he wants to do with his life. Although the only glimpse the player gets of each of these endings is Zelda gazing out the window before smiling and waving, one cannot help but wonder just what Link managed to accomplish in each ending.

More Games Should Follow The Legend Of Zelda's Use Of Mythology

The Legend of Zelda is a masterclass in adapting mythology in a creative way, and other video games should learn some lessons from the series.

The "I dunno" answer is especially fascinating, as one cannot help but wonder where Link went next and whether or not he'll see Zelda again. Perhaps he managed to go on another adventure, saving another distant land from the threats of evil forces. For anyone hoping to see where this version of the Hero Is Triumphant timeline goes, a new game would hopefully answer these questions in due time.

7 How Majora Became Sealed In The Mask

How A Powerful Evil Became Contained

Majora was described as an evil demon summoned by an ancient tribe and sealed within a mask long ago. It is said that anyone who happens to wear the mask becomes possessed by Majora and succumbs to its evil influence, bringing chaos to those around them. Most notably, it possessed the Skull Kid that Link is forced to deal with throughout the entirety of the Majora's Mask game.

As terrifying as it would be, it would be exciting to see a game that takes place before Majora was sealed within the mask. With how terrifying its power is said to be within the mask, one can only imagine how horrific this demon is when left completely unrestrained. Furthermore, it could also provide some answers as to who The Fierce Deity was and potentially explain their history with each other.

What Happened To The Hero Of Time?

Undeniably, there is a lot of mystery surrounding the Majora's Mask game, and not all of the player's questions will be answered by the end. One of the biggest mysteries surrounding the game is just what happened to Link after the game was finished. Even more, questions are raised when because the Hero's Shade that appears in Twilight Princess is the same version of Link, who died at some point between the games.

Players will surely want to know what happened to the Hero of Time between these two games, especially if he ever reunited with his old companion Navi. There is so much potential as to what could have happened between the two games that it could surely become a whole game on its own. Although it would likely have some kind of somber ending, it would at least help to provide some kind of closure for this beloved version of Link.

5 The Eighth Heroine

Revealing The Answers To A Particular BOTW Mystery

Breath Of The Wild tells players the story of seven heroines who are the divine protectors of the Gerudo. However, an eventual quest reveals the existence of an eighth heroine statue that was separated from the rest. This statue is actually a male known simply as 'a hero from afar.'

Almost 25 Years On, No Zelda Game Is Quite Like Majora's Mask

Ocarina of Time's follow-up broke new ground that no other Zelda game has ever fully revisited, making it stand out decades after its release.

The mystery surrounding all of these heroines is a mystery that players cannot help but be intrigued by. Some believe that the eighth heroine could've actually been another reincarnation of Link, who fought alongside Zelda long ago. Ultimately, only time will tell if another game will finally answer this question, but it would certainly provide some fantastic insight into more of the history of this timeline.

4 The Fierce Deity's Story

Explaining One Of The Series' Most Fascinating Figures

One of the most intriguing and mysterious figures in Majora's Mask is The Fierce Deity. The only instance of its existence is through one of many masks that Link can obtain throughout the game. When Link puts this mask on, he can transform into a very tall and powerful being who resembles his adult self from Ocarina Of Time.

Despite the existence of this mask in the game, much is still unknown as to who the Fierce Deity was, how the mask came into existence, and its connection to the game's antagonist, Majora. Many theorize that a powerful ancient hero or deity fell in battle against Majora, but there is currently nothing in any of the games to confirm or deny this. It would be exciting to have a game completely centered around this mysterious individual, as it would not only provide a potentially unique narrative but also answer the numerous questions that fans have had throughout the years.

3 The Imprisoning War

An Alternate Version Of Previous Events

One of the most important moments that was shown in Tears Of The Kingdom was the Imprisoning War, which detailed Ganondorf's betrayal as he sought out the power of Zonai's Secret Stones, but these events did happen previously in a different timeline. In The Hero Is Defeated timeline, a different version of Link fails to stop Ganondorf at the end of Ocarina Of Time, allowing Ganondorf to get his hands on the triforce and transform into Dark Beast Ganon, corrupting the Sacred Realm in the process.

The following battle became known as The Imprisoning War, which ended thanks to Zelda and five other sages trapping Ganon in what was known as the Dark World. A game set during this time could involve the player taking on the role of Zelda to complete this daunting task. Although Link would likely be no longer in this timeline, it cannot be denied that exploring this version of events would be fascinating to many players.

2 The Ancient Hero

A Mysterious Figure From Legend

Breath Of The Wild and Tears Of The Kingdom introduced a mighty warrior who was simply known as The Ancient Hero. It was said that this hero fought alongside an incarnation of the princess and various other powerful beings to seal Calamity Ganon beneath the castle. It is a truly fascinating story that adds a lot of intrigue to both of these games and their history.

Despite all the stories that exist, the true identity of the Ancient Hero has never been fully revealed. Despite strikingly resembling the Zonai, his pointy ears do seem rather Hylian in nature, much like Link's own. A game centered around the Ancient Hero and his various escapades would help answer many of the questions surrounding who he was long ago, providing further insight into the history of this version of Hyrule.

1 The Fall Of Hyrule

Returning The Series To Its Roots

Once it was revealed that Echoes Of Wisdom's timeline takes place directly before the original Zelda game from the 1980s, countless fans wondered where the next game in the franchise should occur. Despite the countless number of games in the franchise, the question of how the kingdom of Hyrule fell before the events of the original still remains a mystery, and a fantastic way to answer it would be through a new game. Ultimately, only time will tell what the next Legend Of Zelda game will entail, but this would be one major event that Nintendo should not up on.
