With Spider-Man: No Way Home to deal with it and use it to bring back the previous versions of Peter Parker: Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield. There’s a lot of speculation around their “surprise” appearance in the MCU’s third Spider-Man movie, and if that’s the case, why hasn’t Marvel confirmed their involvement? The MCU continues its expansion now that the Infinity Saga is over, and Phase 4 is doing things differently by covering both TV shows and movies and introducing new, complex concepts like the multiverse.

The multiverse and the madness that it can trigger will be key in the MCU’s Phase 4, with Sam Raimi’s Spider-Man 2. The appearance of the last two has made viewers believe Spider-Man: No Way Home will deal with the multiverse, which means the past Peter Parkers can show up.

Rumors about Maguire and Garfield’s involvement in Spider-Man: No Way Home are not new, and they have been floating around ever since the first hints at the multiverse in the MCU began to emerge, and with the success of Sony’s the MCU’s Spider-Man 3, the studio has then gone to great lengths to keep their appearances a secret, as not even the official merch includes them, but the big question is why they insist on not confirming it.

Tom Holland, Andrew Garfield, and Tobey Maguire as Spider-Man

Garfield’s performance has a place in the hearts of fans. Given the popularity of both versions, if they are to appear in Spider-Man: No Way Home, it seems strange that Marvel wouldn’t confirm it, but at the same time, that might be exactly why they haven’t been confirmed. Surely, if their appearances are revealed in the first trailer, and even though fans have been eagerly waiting for that, these would come as a big surprise, but wouldn’t be a shock as the studio might be thinking. Of course, there could be bigger reasons known only to those involved in Spider-Man: No Way Home to not confirm Maguire and Garfield’s involvement, which could be related to their contracts or other things the audience isn’t aware of.

As much as Tom Holland and even Garfield himself have insisted the previous Peter Parkers are not in Spider-Man: No Way Home, the MCU is known for trying to mislead the audience by having the cast throw one or two lies, to the point where fans don’t believe most of the things they say anymore. The return of Maguire and Garfield as Spider-Man is, at the moment, the worst-kept MCU secret, supposing they will show up, but on the other hand, speculation has evolved to a point where if they don’t appear, the audience will be disappointed.
