Famed next James Bond actor. Originally created in 1953 by novelist Ian Fleming, the seductive spy took the world by storm with his first feature film Dr. No in 1962 starring Sean Connery as the MI6 agent. After six lead actors and 25 films spanning the better part of seven decades, EON Productions is preparing for their next chapter in the James Bond franchise.

The latest entry in the film series, No Time To Die, saw the conclusion of the Daniel Craig era of Bond. Beginning in 2006 with the wildly popular Casino Royale, the actor was the face of Bond for 15 years until his version of the character's demise in the last movie. With Craig's Bond most assuredly dead, the producers, Broccoli and her half-brother Michael G. Wilson, are working on another way to resurrect the character for a new generation of fans.

While at a British Film Institute in London (via Deadline), Broccoli provides an update regarding EON Productions' search for the next James Bond actor. The producer its that, so far, there are currently no actors being considered for the role, as they are focusing on how to frame the next chapter of the franchise. Read what Broccoli has to say below:

Nobody’s in the running. We’re working out where to go with him, we’re talking that through. There isn’t a script and we can’t come up with one until we decide how we’re going to approach the next film because, really, it’s a reinvention of Bond. We’re reinventing who he is and that takes time...

With a script not yet complete, it makes sense that there are no actors currently being considered for the iconic role. Choices regarding the characterization of Bond in the screenplay can determine the actor cast for the role. A version written with a lighter tone, such as the character's appearances in the films between 1973 and 1983, dictated Roger Moore's Bond hiring. His charmingly playful personality complimented the outlandish stories on the page, especially with some of the more over-the-top films, such as Moonraker. However, Craig was an excellent choice for Bond in his more serious run of films. His harder-edged portrayal lent itself for the deeper themes of films such as Skyfall and Spectre.

There has been wide speculation regarding who will play the next James Bond in the multi-generational film franchise. Idris Elba has been on the short list for the better part of a decade. Man of Steel's Henry Cavill, Venom's Tom Hardy, Outlander's Sam Heughan, and Bridgerton's Regé-Jean Page have also been highlighted as possible choices for the film series. Regardless of the possibilities for the character, Broccoli understands that a plan for the franchise's next chapter needs to be structured before the casting process can begin.
