Warning! Spoilers ahead for Guardians of the Galaxy #16.

In the latest issue of Marvel Comics' Star-Lord in the team's primary romance among the stars. During the team's first battle with Dormammu in this issue, Gamora and Rocket's ship was destroyed, leaving them stranded and dying in open space. However, Nova managed to rescue them, and there were certainly some intended sparks between Rider and his former love interest Gamora. It seems as though the two of them are ready to try having a relationship in the comics once more, deviating from the MCU romance between Gamora and Peter Quill.

In prior issues from writer Al Ewing and artist Juan Frigeri, the majority of the galaxy has been anxious, preparing for a great evil to hatch out of the black shell that was once Ego the Living Planet. Sure enough, none other than the dreaded Dormammu burst forth to plague the cosmos, unleashing his hordes of Mindless Ones to completely overwhelm the stars. However, while Nova and Peter Quill were worlds away on the recently terraformed Mars (having been taken over by the X-Men), Moondragon alerted them to the new danger. Naturally, this prompted Nova to access the total power of the Nova Force to get to the battle in mere minutes, having grown incredibly worried about Gamora's safety, who he still loves.

Prior to the MCU, which saw Star-Lord and Gamora forming a romance across multiple films, Nova was Gamora's original love in the comics. However, Nova's return from the Cancerverse saw Gamora and Peter Quill having formed a relationship, having followed suit with the Marvel Studios films. However, recent events have resulted in some major changes for Peter Quill, and it certainly seems as though an opportunity has been created for Nova and Gamora to rekindle their relationship as a result. This is pretty evident given Nova's intense focus on saving Gamora when her ship explodes, which would have left her dying in open space had she not been rescued and carried to safety in his arms.

While it certainly seems as though Nova and Gamora's romance will soon be reignited, it's doubtful that Star-Lord will be all that jealous in future issues. After all, he's just returned from living an entire lifetime in an alternate reality known as Morinus where he had been trapped for over a hundred years, forming a family of his own. Not only that, but Peter Quill has also been transformed into a literal Star-Lord and near godlike Master of the Sun, so clearly he's got a lot going on that has differentiated himself perhaps too much from the man Gamora once loved.

Now, it seems very likely that Nova will be stepping in to bring back his classic comics romance with Gamora as they head into The Last Annihilation event against Dormammu. While the pair have a history, it seems as though their latest attempt at romance could be somewhat gradual. Still, it's pretty exciting all the same, and it's going to be really interesting to see not only how Nova's new romance progresses, but also what the future holds for Star-Lord given all these new changes and revamps.
