I couldn't be happier to see the revival of Star Wars Battlefront 2 taking off years after release, finally providing a reason to revisit one of my favorite and most memorable shooters. Unfortunately, the resurgence in popularity has also resulted in countless hackers wreaking havoc on public servers, making it night unplayable for PC players. Despite its ongoing issues, revisiting Battlefront 2 years later has reminded me of one mechanic carried from the start of the franchise that has already solved my biggest concern with the multiplayer shooter genre at large. y6z5a

Earlier this week, I booted up Star Wars Battlefront 2 for the first time since 2017. I'd seen the news: player counts for DICE's Battlefield-styled, Star Wars-set shooter were on the rise, and no one really knew why. I figured I had nothing to lose. I'd been a big fan of the original Battlefront 2, and had enjoyed the first of the reboot series well enough. I'd also been around for the disastrous launch of its sequel, though, so I was a little bit skeptical. I'd lost or sold my original copy somewhere in the aftermath of that debacle, but hey, it was on Game .

There might not be an official followup to Star Wars Battlefront 2 in the works, so several fans have taken it upon themselves to create a sequel to the beloved 2017 title. Battlefront and Battlefront 2 were iconic entries into the Star Wars gaming portfolio, letting players blast and saber their way through the universe on behalf of the faction of their choice. The second game, in particular, was well-loved by the Star Wars community for its direct ties to the movies, with many game missions drawing directly from the first six movies in the franchise.

While there's still no official sign of a sequel to Star Wars Battlefront 2getting announced anytime soon, that hasn't stopped its resurgence in popularity among fans. Following the success of Andor season 2, the Battlefront games have seen a massive resurgence in playercount. With how much of a chokehold the Battelfront franchise has on the Star Wars fanbase and gaming community as a whole, I'm hesitant to believe that EA is willing to let the series rot.

Many fans calmored for a third entry in the Star Wars Battlefront series back in the early 2000s (and are still asking for a modern third game from rebooted series developer DICE), and it turns out that work did begin on a third game, and now one of the original game's developers has explained why it never materialized, almost 20 years later. The original Star Wars Battlefront series saw critical acclaim and commercial success, leading to publisher LucasArts wanting another game quickly, but a transition to new hardware made it impossible.

By following the trajectory of Imperial Commander Iden Versio, leader of the elite Inferno Squad and eventual defector, players learn to understand what it must have been like for someone to grow up in a household completely loyal to the Empire. More than anything, Versio’s story is one of breaking free from propaganda and undeserved family loyalty – she’s an incredibly compelling character.

Although the Inferno Squad hasn't made an appearance in Star Wars canon movies and TV shows, these troopers have become incredibly popular. Moreover, their absence in Star Wars' shows and movies doesn't indicate a lack of importance. Rather, the Inferno Squad became major players at key points in the Star Wars timeline, including by playing a role in Emperor Palpatine's sinister Operation: Cinder.

2017's Star Wars: Battlefront IIfeatures a campaign mode that simultaneously tells a compelling narrative while tying into and setting up several Star Warsstories. Set during and after Return of the Jedi, Battlefront II's campaign mode follows Inferno Squad, tasked with helping to avenge the Emperor's death and the destruction of the second Death Star. However, two of Inferno Squad the New Republic, while one chooses to stay with the Imperial Remnant. The game picks up 30 years later with a DLC set during the Star Wars sequel trilogy, tying into the rise of the First Order.
