The Marvel Cinematic Universe has introduced a wide set of powers throughout their films ever since the franchise began with Iron Man, and I'm now convinced that I know exactly which powers would be the worst to have. With some of the strongest Avengers being blessed with unbelievable gifts, it is difficult to compare one powerset with another. While some have grounded abilities, others are practically godlike in the franchise, with incredible abilities. Some of these come with greater costs than others. 4e2zk

The Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) is a vast tapestry of stories with dozens of characters across space and the multiverse, but I'm still shocked that I didn't think more about this one character's origin story until now. Since 2008, when the very first Iron Man movie was released, I have been addicted to the MCU. I already had a deep and abiding love for superheroes and the idea of a comic book-connected universe playing out across dozens of movies was a distant dream. However, when Tony Stark was captured by the Ten Rings, and placed in a dark and dingy cave, all of those dreams began to come true.

The Guardians of the Galaxy's Mantis has always had a wide array of powers, but one new ability is allowing her to put more of them to use than ever. By literalizing a part of her complicated backstory, Mantis’ new abilities make her power potentially limitless.

The 1970s was a bit of a "lawless" time in the world of comic books, so unregulated in fact that Mantis of the Guardians of the Galaxy was actually written into comics under 4 different publishers by her creator Steve Englehart. Mantis, or the "Celestial Madonna," has always been much more cosmically important in Marvel Comics than in the MCU, so important that Englehart brought her into DC, Eclipse, and Image Comics!

The fan favorite MCU character Mantis from the Guardians of the Galaxy franchise actually plays a much more meaningful and important role to the Marvel Universe within the pages of Marvel Comics, revealing that the cinematic reimagining of the character failed her. A new variant cover Avengers Forever #4, by Marvel Stormbreaker artist R.B. Silva, highlights the celestial beauty and importance of Mantis as the literal mother of the universe's "Celestial Messiah," setting her apart from her more infantilized and "cute" MCU counterpart.

A new Marvel's Voices comic anthology is on its way and it will star many of the newest MCU stars to celebrate Asian and Pacific American Heritage Month. Marvel's Voices: Identity #1 features Shang-Chi, Ms. Marvel, Wong, and Mantis from Guardians of the Galaxy, but there will also be many more heroes to read about. Fans of these characters (all of whom have - or will soon make - debuts within the MCU) will want to check out their newest comic adventures, arriving just in time for Asian American and Pacific Islander Heritage Month.
