I'm very glad that Jonathan Frakes will have a big role as a director inStar Trek's next two series on Paramount+, Star Trek: Strange New Worlds season 3 and Star Trek: Starfleet Academy season 1. The long-awaited Strange New Worlds season 3 will premiere this summer on Paramount+, with the Tribeca Film Festival hosting Star Trek: Strange New Worlds season 3's world premiere on June 14. Ethan Phillips Talaxian chef, Neelix, was a Delta Quadrant native, and Jeri Ryan's former Borg drone Seven of Nine became a Captain in Star Trek: Picard.

Ever since I heard that Star Trek: Voyager's Robert Picardo would be appearing in the Star Trek: Starfleet Academy, I've wondered which version of Voyager's Doctor Picardo would be playing in the new Star Trek show. As a spin-off of Star Trek: Discovery, Star Trek: Starfleet Academy is set in the 32nd century, but also features 22nd century transplants from the USS Discovery, like Mary Wiseman's Lieutenant Sylvia Tilly and Tig Notaro's Commander Jett Reno. The legacy Star Trek characters in Starfleet Academy will be helping to rebuild Starfleet after the Burn devastated warp-capable starships 100 years earlier.

I was already excited about Paul Giamatti playing Star Trek: Starfleet Academy's villain but after his recent comments, I believe Paul could be the Khan (Ricardo Montalban) successor Star Trek has wanted since 1982. An A-list actor, Giamatti is a two-time Academy Award nominee, an Emmy winner, and a Golden Globe winner. Star Trek: Starfleet Academy casting Paul Giamatti as season 1's villain was a coup alongside Academy Award-winner Holly Hunter coming aboard as the series lead.
