When it comes to comic book couples, few have had as rocky a road as Batman and Catwoman have. Despite seeming like a match made in heaven, the two have had a lot of difficulties in their relationship, either due to different perspectives on crime or moments where they accidentally hurt one another.

And yet, Batman and Catwoman are definitely meant to be together, and the following 10 moments prove exactly why.

10 Batman #149

The Reconciliation After a Bitter Fight

Batman Leads Catwoman Into Pennyworth Manor DC

The “Gotham War” event was a battle that nearly drove Selina and Bruce apart for good. But the two took some time apart after Catwoman’s plan to re-train henchmen to be cat burglars who stole only from the elite fell through. Both Selina and Bruce went through some incredibly trying moments, but thankfully, they finally found a shared moment of peace and Catwoman visited Batman to finally make up after their incredibly tense confrontation.

While “Gotham War” was arguably the worst fight in the couple’s history (for numerous reasons), they both recognized the role they played in that battle and that they were both out of line. While it wasn’t the fix they needed to get their romantic life back on track, this moment of reconciliation proved that even the worst of fights can’t drive Batman and Catwoman apart.

9 The Brave and the Bold #197

Batman Looks Back on a Life Well-Lived with Catwoman

Earth Two Batman and Catwoman Together DC

Interestingly enough, a version of Batman and Catwoman did manage to officially tie the knot. In this iconic story, the Earth-Two version of Bruce Wayne looks back on his life and recalls a time when he teamed up with Catwoman, and told her everything about his past and secret identity. The two had a frank discussion about who they were and what they wanted out of life and the end result was Batman and Catwoman finally achieving marital bliss.

Sure, it’s not canon to the Prime DC Universe and Bruce and Selina still have a lot to work out. But this issue showed that happiness is possible for both of them and that, despite everything that came before, it’s not too late for Batman and Catwoman to build a life together.

8 Solo #1

The Thrill of the Chase is the Core of Their Relationship

Batman Kisside Down Batman DC

One may wonder what it is that truly draws Batman and Catwoman together. Well, nothing says that better than the short story “Date Knight” from Solo #1. In this timeless tale, Batman stops Catwoman in the middle of a heist. But as it turns out, Selina had no intentions of stealing anything, but rather, wanted to spend the evening in a classic chase, which Batman begrudgingly goes along with.

It’s a light and playful story, with Catwoman egging Batman on and just when it seems like Bruce has the upper hand, Selina ties him up and leaves him, teasing another date in the future. Batman would never it it, but it’s clear he enjoys these kinds of games, and Catwoman is the only person who can keep up with him.

7 The New Golden Age / Justice Society

Their Future Daughter Came Back to Keep Things Right

Batman Meets His Daughter DC

While the future is constantly shifting, one surprising relation to Catwoman and Batman took a huge risk to keep their love alive. The New Golden Age one-shot reintroduced Helena Wayne (aka the Huntress), Selina and Bruce’s future daughter, back into Prime DC continuity and when she gets the opportunity to go back in time to protect the JSA from Per Degaton, Helena takes the time to warn Batman about his death in the future so that their family won’t be shattered.

Huntress’ warning might have saved her father’s future, but it changed the timeline to an unknown degree. But while that particular future is in doubt, the fact that Batman and Catwoman were such good parents that they raised a confident daughter like the Huntress says it all.

6 Batman/Catwoman Special #1

Their Entire Future Laid Out

Older Batman and Catwoman Together DC

If there’s one thing that’s ed about Tom King’s time on Batman, it’s that much of it centered around Bruce and Selina’s relationship. But while much of his saga revolved around the present-day highs and lows of the Bat and Cat, Batman/Catwoman Special #1 gave readers an extended look at Selina Kyle’s life, from her birth all the way to her death and every important moment with Bruce in-between.

Granted, this was like “The Autobiography of Bruce Wayne” and nothing in the story was set in stone. But it does make one thing clear: That, throughout her entire life, Catwoman has only ever really loved Batman. And if that’s not an indication the two are meant to be together, then nothing is.

5 Injustice: Gods Among Us

Catwoman Promises to Hold Batman Together

Catwoman Comforts Batman in Cave DC

This moment isn’t from Catwoman and Batman’s canon history together, but it shows how well Selina truly gets Bruce. In this twisted alternate universe, Batman’s ally Nightwing has just died and Bruce is furious. He’s in the Batcave, punching at a training post until his hands bleed through his armor. But Catwoman manages to cut through the anger and tells him it’s okay to not be Batman for a moment and to let himself grieve.

Batman puts up a lot of defenses because it’s what helps him survive in a world of metahumans and aliens. But at the end of the day he’s still a human and while he puts on a brave and sometimes scary front, Catwoman still sees the humanity in Bruce and gives him a safe space to be vulnerable.

4 "Memory and Forfeits"

A Christmas Game Shows How Well Selina Understands Bruce

Catwoman About to Kiss Batman DC

There’s no better time to show one’s loved ones how much they mean than the holidays and, in Catwoman’s case, she demonstrated how intimately she knows the Caped Crusader. DC’s Grifter Got Run Over by a Reindeer includes the short story, “Memory and Forfeits”, which sees Batman fighting a different villain for 12 nights in a row. But the battles weren’t random coincidence; they were actually arranged by Catwoman as a gift to Batman.

Batman, of course, figured out it was all Selina’s doing, but instead of being mad, he’s actually grateful for Catwoman’s thoughtfulness. It’s a bit of an understatement to say that the two have an unconventional relationship, but Catwoman and Batman get one another, and they prove it during the most thoughtful time of the year.

3 Batman #615

The Reveal That Changed Batman History

batman reveals his identity to catwoman

While the Pre-Crisis Batman and Catwoman knew one another’s identity, it took a long, long time for Bruce to own up to who he really was beneath the mask. But in the mid 00s’, Batman had started seriously seeing Catwoman and it was during the classic “Hush” storyline that he finally revealed who he really was. At Nightwing’s insistence, Bruce took Selina to the zoo, where he disclosed his identity to her in a moment of quiet intimacy.

It’s hard for Bruce to let people in and not everyone gets to know both halves of his life. But Catwoman isn’t everyone, she’s someone special to Batman and this moment showed just how special she was. If anything showed that these two could go the distance, it’s Batman willingly giving up his most closely-guarded secret.

2 "The Heart of Hush"

Batman Fights For Selina's Heart

Batman holding Catwoman with Hush ominously peering through his bandages in the background.

It’s pretty much public information that Catwoman is close to Batman, so when Bruce’s old friend Tommy Elliot, aka Hush, showed up, he went after Catwoman’s heart. Literally, he kidnapped her and took her heart out in order to draw Batman into a series of challenges in order to reclaim it. Despite the harrowing game, Bruce does manage to recover Selina’s heart and Catwoman is made whole once again.

If it were anyone else, Batman would still have done everything possible to recover their missing heart. But because it was Catwoman’s, Bruce took this far more personally. Batman even ended this adventure telling Selina that she was the only woman he would ever love and anyone who knows Batman knows he’s telling the truth.

1 Batman #24

The Proposal That Proved a Future Was Possible

After a near-death experience, Batman began thinking about his future seriously and decided that it was finally time for him to make a real change in his life. In a moment that stunned the entire DCU (and in the real world), Bruce Wayne proposed to Selina Kyle, and she responded with a ‘yes’. Of course, the wedding that fans were looking forward to for roughly a year never panned out, but it doesn’t diminish this incredibly important moment for Batman.

Batman is someone who finds it hard to make real change, at least as far as his life as Bruce is concerned. However, he was ready to take a major step for Selina and only Selina. While Bruce was never able to put a ring on Selina’s finger, seeing Batman propose to Catwoman made it clear these two could, one day, go the distance.
